PROJECT
The project PV-NMS-NET was
build on previous initiatives at
European level, first-of-all on PV-
NAS-NET and partially on PV Catapult
and complementary to other activities
on the fields of PV like and European
Photovoltaic Technology Platform.
The most important for PV-NMS-NET
are recommendations and conclusions
of PV-NAS-NET. PV-NAS-NET has
aimed at increasing efficiency and
coherence of the RTD programmes
supporting photovoltaic solar energy
in European Union.
The main assumptions of the project
have been targeted at strengthening
the links between PV RTD institutions
from the Newly Associated States and
the Member States of the European
Union, what have coincided well
with the approach described in the
Commission communication “Towards
a European Research Area”. Defining
the legal, financial and political
environment concerning PV in NAS,
comparing it with the EU members and
continuous exchange of information
have been the main measures
effecting in setting out a new
strategy of PV improvement and
preparing the recommendations
for European Commission and
national governments.

In effect the project has been
helpful to improve NAS, and
EU PV RTD programmes by
strengthening the European PV
RTD base and its impact on the
European PV industry.
The activities of the PV-NAS-
NET project brought the report
on “Status of Photovoltaics
and Recommendations for PV
Development in the European
Union New Member and Candidate
States” which is a review of
PV RTD, demonstration and
dissemination activities in the
NM&CS. This document was
a pioneering study concerning
state-of-the-art of photovoltaics
in EU NM&CS and it was a base for
benchmarking which provided
an input to recommendations
to NM&CS governments and the
European Commission. Project
prepared Status of PV in NM&CS
twice in 2003 and 2004.
The reports on activities in 2005,
2006 and 2007 were done thanks
to maintaining the old network.
