for students of the Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering and Faculty of Business and
Management;
n Courses in Bachelor’s and Master’s
degree focused on general language,
but great attention is also paid to
professional English and communicative
skills;
n Language courses for Ph.D. students focused
on languages for specific purposes
and terminology according to the given
specialisation with special attention to
oral delivery and written form of reports,
presentations, and letters;
n Blended learning as a part of all compulsory
courses;
n Optional conversational and general
language courses.
Scientific Activities
n Focused on the areas of applied
linguistics;
n Closely connected e.g. with methodology
and the areas of teaching languages for
specific purposes;
n Projects and grants with results applied
in courses to improve language education.
Special Activities
n EU project within the operational
programme Education for Competitiveness
“English Campus” focused on the
English language training of students
and employees at the Brno University of
Technology at various levels utilizing interactive
support and own video courses;
n Accredited testing centre authorized to
organize language tests for university
students and wider public in general
(International ESOL, Spoken IESOL)
and business English (English for Business
Communication, Spoken Test for
Business, Business for Office Skills) in
accordance with the Common European
Framework of reference for Languages
– levels A1 to C2 (after passing a written
test and oral examination, the candidate
receives an internationally recognized
certificate by City&Guilds, which is one
of the major UK certification institutions);
n Leading institution in the pilot programme
of Effective Communication in
Technical/Scientific Writing for Leonardo
da Vinci research project;
n Partner in the continuation project under
Leonardo II entitled Writing Professional
English;
n Focused on practical training – English
for Practical Training of Engineering
Students I, English for Practical Training
of Engineering Students II, English for
Technical Communication in European
Engineering Companies;
n Project under Leonardo II for German
language called Deutsch im Maschinenbau
available on-line – the project was
awarded the European Language Prize
LABEL.
