Brno University <strong>of</strong> Technology is a prestigious university in the Czech Republic<br />

and a well-known European technical university providing education in technical,<br />

economic and art disciplines. As one <strong>of</strong> the elite technical and research universities<br />

the University has received ECTS and Diploma Supplement Labels.<br />

Studies at Brno University <strong>of</strong> Technology<br />

Structured tertiary-level education in<br />

full-time or combined mode <strong>of</strong> study<br />

in the following levels:<br />

n Bc. and Bc.A. Bachelor’s programmes<br />

(3–4 years).<br />

n Ing., Ing. arch. or MgA. Master’s<br />

programmes (1.5–2 years).<br />

n Ph.D. doctoral programmes (3–4 years).<br />

The entrance procedures include a written<br />

test focused on the applicant’s interest <strong>of</strong><br />

the particular field <strong>of</strong> study and the knowledge<br />

in the relevant discipline. Some faculties<br />

may accept students with excellent<br />

secondary school results without entrance<br />

examination.<br />

The basic forms <strong>of</strong> teaching are lectures,<br />

seminars, studio work, projects, classwork,<br />

consultations, work placements, excursions<br />

and individual work.<br />

The academic year is divided into winter<br />

and summer semesters, each generally<br />

comprising 13 weeks <strong>of</strong> teaching and five<br />

weeks examination period.<br />

Within the framework <strong>of</strong> international<br />

exchange programmes, students may<br />

take some courses at partner universities<br />

abroad. The University participates in<br />

European educational programmes such as<br />

Erasmus, CEEPUS and Leonardo da Vinci.<br />

The faculties enable the study <strong>of</strong> disabled<br />

students. Computer rooms are barrier free,<br />

the study conditions are adapted to individual<br />

needs <strong>of</strong> students, electronic textbooks<br />

and other aids <strong>of</strong> a multimedia nature are<br />

available at most <strong>of</strong> the faculties.<br />

University <strong>of</strong>fers various free <strong>of</strong> charge<br />

counselling services oriented towards<br />

student career counselling and cooperation<br />

with companies, counselling in difficult<br />

situations and distress related not only<br />

to the studies.<br />
