The ROSS SystemModularized ProducedWater TreatmentCeramic MembraneTechnology

Produced Water TreatmentCeramic Membrane-based SystemThe ROSS System from Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies is asimplified, yet robust solution for the treatment of oilfield produced water.Based on CeraMem® ceramic membrane technology, this system providesremoval of oil, solids, silica as well as softening of the watersimultaneously in a fully modular process train. When compared toconventional treatment, the ROSS System is a more effective, reliable, andoperator-friendly treatment process in a significantly smaller footprint.Ideal for Additional Capacity or ExpansionDue to its modular design and construction, the ROSS System is well suited for incremental capacity expansions tooil production facilities. It is also an ideal solution for additions to facilities to ease bottlenecks in production fromexisting, underperforming or undersized water treatment plants.Effective Alternativeto ConventionalTreatmentPositive Barrier Against UpsetsIn the case of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD)production, facilities typically recycle over 90% ofproduced water to generate steam for production. Theclosed water cycle makes produced water treatment acritical portion of the overall oil production operation.Conventional treatment is comprised of a skim tank,Induced Gas Floatation (IGF), Oil Removal Filter (ORF),Warm Lime Softener (WLS), After Filter (AF) and WeakAcid Cation (WAC) resin softening. As a complexprocess train with no barrier technologies to stop thetransmission of upsets, conventional treatment isespecially vulnerable to upsets. The unpredictable and rapid onset of upsets in theproduced water treatment process often results inunplanned maintenance and production losses. TheROSS System, based on ceramic membranetechnology, provides an absolute barrier againstupsets, which are characterized by rapid increase ofsuspended solids and oils.Critical Component inOPUS® II TechnologyThe ROSS System is a critical part of otherproduced water treatment systems offered byVeolia Water.A recent installation of OPUS II Technology inSouthern California integrates the ceramicmembrane system as pretreatment prior to ionexchange and reverse osmosis. This project is designed to produce 45,000barrels-per-day (bpd) of high-quality effluent.OPUS II technology then provides 25,000 bpd forsteam generation and 20,000 bpd for surfacewater discharge. The treated water exceeds stateand federal requirements for quality.
