<strong>Union</strong> <strong>Baptist</strong> <strong>Church</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Cemetery</strong><strong>New</strong> <strong>Kent</strong> County, VirginiaSeveral years following freedom for blacks, a young railroad worker named WashingtonStuman came to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Kent</strong> County. Finding no church or church school in this Quintoncommunity, he <strong>and</strong> other Christian leaders organized a church school which met at Mr.Stuman’s home. Mr. Stuman donated an acre of l<strong>and</strong> on the site of the present cemetery wherea log cabin church named Free <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Baptist</strong> was built. In 1879, after the purchase ofadditional l<strong>and</strong>, the church was moved to its present site <strong>and</strong> named <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Baptist</strong>.(Above information from Barbara J.
