TABLE 2. Composition of the commercial diets used in the growth trials. The catfish pelletswere manufactured by O.H. Kruse Grain and Milling, 3730 Monterey, EI Monte, CA 91734.The salmon starter was obtained from Zeigler Bros., Inc., P.O. Box 95, Gardners, PA 17324.The compositions are from the manufacturer's labels.COMPONENT CATFISH PELLETS SALMON STARTERCrude Protein, Max. 36.0% 55.0%Crude Fat, Min. 4.2% 15.0%Crude Fiber, Max. 5.5% 2.0%TABLE 3. The first consisted of a one-way ANOV A to comparefinal fish sizes between tanks. The second method was a nested ANOV A conducted on adata set obtained by drawing random samples of 15 records from those of each tank. Thisreduced the computational intensity required to a level that could be handled with a personalcomputer (IBM PS/2 386sx) and assured a balanced ANOV A design. Before performing any of the ANOVAs, we used Levene's Test to check the equalityof variances between tanks. Homogeneity of variances is a major assumption of ANOV A.8
