High Energy Dynode Detectorfor Ion Traps and QuadrupolesPreliminary Data sheet - Specifications may changePRODUCT DATA• High Detection Efficiency for Ionenergies from 1 eV to 5 keV• Suitable for both Ion Traps andQuadrupoles• ± 10 kV HED Operation• Positive and Negative Ion Detection• Snap-in multiplier sectionThis unique high energy dynode (HED) multiplier isdesigned to be sensitive to a very wide range of ionenergies. While this is critical for ion trapoperation, it will also enhance the performanceof quadrupole systems operating at high mass. Therefore, it is ideal for LC-MS applications. As in all HED multipliers, a high voltage (± 10 kV)is applied to the conversion dynode (HED) toaccelerate the ions before their interaction withthe dynode surface. This enhances the electron(or secondary ion) yield from the dynode, which isparticularly important for high mass ions whichhave inherently low yield. For negative iondetection, positive high voltage is applied to theHED and the secondary positive ions generatedfrom the initial ion impact are focussed into theamplifying section. For positive ion detection, negative high voltage is applied to the HED andsecondary electrons generated from the ionimpact are focussed into the amplifying section.Three different models are available; each featuringvery efficient ion optics. Refer to Table 1 fordetails of mechanical size and operational lifetimes. All ETP electron multipliers incorporate totallyair-stable "ACTIVE FILM" materials in adiscrete-dynode multiplier design to achieveexceptionally sensitive ion detection with longoperating life and excellent air stability.
