Veneer Plaster continues to grow in
popularity as a wall finishing system.
The speed of application for one-coat
systems makes it competitive with
drywall, and the added smoothness
of two-coat veneer provides a look of
luxury and adds ease to decorating.
In either case, the toughness of
veneer plaster makes walls more
durable and resistant to scuffs,
gouges and impact damage.
Having the right metal trims, control
joints and corner reinforcements is
an integral part of the wall system’s
appearance and long-term performance.

Advantages
Strength—Veneer and plaster are used to create
strong, durable finishes resistant to scuffs,
gouges, dents and abrasions.

Styles & Types
Veneer Corner Beads
are designed to protect
interior corners and
to establish suitable
grounds for veneer
finishes.
Veneer Trims 701A
and 801A are J-shaped
trims that come in different
depths and grounds to accommodate veneer finishes.
Sized to fit 1/2" and 5/8" gypsum plaster base, 701A grounds
are 3/32" for two-coat veneer and 801A grounds are 1/16" for
one-coat veneer plaster. Also available in zinc for cement
board applications.
Veneer Trims 701B and 801B are L-shaped trims designed
for use at the junction of veneer gypsum board base with
rough concrete or masonry ceilings. They are sized to fit 1/2"
and 5/8" gypsum board plaster base. 701B grounds are 3/32"
for two-coat veneer, and 801B grounds are 1/16" for one-coat
veneer plaster. Use zinc finish for exterior applications.
Expanded Corner Beads are designed to protect outside
corners and to establish suitable grounds for plaster and stucco
finishes.
Cornerite should be used on interior corner angles where
the lath has been spliced or where additional reinforcement is
desired. It should be wire tied to the lath using 18-gauge wire.
Strip Lath is a flat expanded metal strip used as plaster reinforcement
over joints of non-metallic lathing bases and where
dissimilar bases join. It’s commonly attached diagonally at the
corners of doors, windows or areas prone to cracks.
Expanded Flange Casing Beads are used to ensure the
proper stucco thickness. They are recommended for use with
metal lath and masonry units.

Screeds protect the
stop edges of stucco at
the sill plate line. Holes
in the flange allow some
weeping, but the angular
surface of the bead is
designed to facilitate the
egress of moisture
behind the cementitious
membrane.
1-3/8" J-Weep is primarily used as a starter track at the bottom
of the wall for 3/8" one-coat stucco over 1" foam.
Mini-Bead 900 Zinc is a zinc bead used for external corner
reinforcements. It has 1-1/4" wide fine-mesh expanded flanges
tapered along outer edges for improved concealment and easier
finishing with EIFS basecoats and finishes.
NOTE: Dietrich Metal Framing recommends the use of zinc
or vinyl for all exterior applications.
CAUTION: Joints and corners are a potential point of water
intrusion. Dietrich strongly recommends building paper be
placed behind all joints and corners. Also, a bead of highquality
caulking should be applied under the joints prior to
the attachment of the materials.

Corner reinforcement for one- and two-coat
veneer “thin wall” plaster systems.

Dietrich Mini-Bead 800/900 are fine-mesh corner beads
used to provide corner reinforcement for one- and twocoat
veneer plaster systems. 1-1/4" wide fine-mesh flanges
are tapered along the outer edges to enhance veneer
plaster concealment. MB80 has 1/16" grounds for one-coat
veneer plaster and 90 keys per linear foot for excellent
bonding and strong, secure corners. MB90 has 3/32"
grounds associated with two-coat veneer plaster systems.
Zinc Mini-Bead (ZB90) corner beads should be used in
exterior finish systems. Flange attachments can be
accomplished by nailing, stapling or clinching.

Dietrich
093 Drywall
Control Joint
is applied
between
abutting
gypsum panels
and used to
relieve stresses
of expansion
and
contraction of drywall and veneer plaster systems in wall
expanses over 30 feet and ceiling areas exceeding 2,500
square feet. It’s installed from door header to ceiling, from
floor to ceiling in long partition runs, and from wall to wall
in large ceiling areas or in areas where framing or furring
change direction. Plastic tape protects 1/4" opening, 7/16"
depth, and is removed after compound or plaster is applied
and finish is completed.
Zinc Control Joints are manufactured from high-quality pure
zinc and can be used for interior or exterior applications.
NOTE: Where fire and sound control are prime
considerations, a seal must be attached behind
the control joint.

Dietrich 1A expanded corner bead is used to provide
strong corner reinforcement for conventional plaster
applications. A solid metal nose provides a straight, rigid
ground for screeding and the 2-7/8" or 3" flanges can be
flexed easily over irregular, uneven surfaces. Plaster keys
near the solid nose provide increased reinforcement where
needed and ensures straight corners. Available in 8' and 10'
lengths in galvanized, and 10' lengths in zinc. Zinc is
recommended for interior high-moisture exposure areas
and exterior plaster applications.

Dietrich Cornerite reinforcing angle is used to reinforce
all inside or inner plaster corners to reduce corner cracking.
Cornerite reinforcing angle is formed from finished edge
strip lath and bent lengthwise to a 100° angle ensuring a
snug fit into 90° corners. It’s commonly used when walls
meet walls or ceilings, over inner angles of masonry
construction and in the floating angle method of applying
gypsum lath to wood framing in order to reduce plaster
cracking.
Dietrich Cornerite reinforcing angle should be tied to the
base lath using 18-gauge tie wire. Cornerite should not be
attached directly to support framing, but allowed to float
in the corner. Available in 2" x 2" in 4' and 8' lengths,
and 3" x 3" in 8' length only.

Dietrich #66 N short flange casing beads are used as
plaster stops, as exposed trim around wall openings and
junctions, or at intersections of plaster and other wall or
ceiling finishes. These casing beads are recommended for
gypsum plaster bases. Perforated 1-1/4" nailing flange aids
attachment and plaster keying. Short flange 7/8" beads are
recommended when flange is applied under gypsum lath
plaster base, and short flange 1/2" beads when flange is
applied over gypsum lath plaster base. Zinc is
recommended for exterior applications.

This Dietrich #66 N short flange casing bead has the same
uses as the #66 expanded flange casing beads associated
with select one-coat systems but it has weep holes. The weep
holes are added for moisture dissipation. Perforated 1-1/4"
nailing flange aids attachment and plaster keying. NOTE: It is
important to remember that casing beads with weep
holes punched in the ground flange are for tested and
approved one-coat systems. No other applications
are implied or suggested.

Corner Master

Effectively accommodates movement at code
prescribed limits, reduces labor time and
provides a neat, finished appearance.

Zinc Control Joints 38, 50, 75 and 100 are roll-formed
from zinc to resist corrosion in both interior and exterior
applications with gypsum or Portland cement plaster. An
open slot, 1/4" wide and 1/2" deep, is protected with plastic
tape that is removed after plaster and finish is completed.
Perforated short flanges aid keying and wire attachment
to metal lath or stapling to gypsum lath. Effective plaster
bonding is accomplished with the key-lock grounds. Ground
heights come in 3/8" (38), 1/2" (50), 3/4" (75) and 1" (100).
NOTE: Should not be used with magnesium oxy-chloride
cement stuccos or stuccos containing calcium chloride
additives. Construction paper or felt strips should be used
as flashing behind all expansion joints.

A general-purpose control joint offering exceptional expansion control for plastered
walls and ceilings, the Double-J Expansion Joint has a 5/16" reveal and rolled outer
edges that allow effective plaster bonding. This helps prevent visible separation
cracks. To ensure the desired finish, plaster must be embedded under rolled edges
and across the 1-1/4" expanded flanges. Plastic tape keeps the reveal clean and is
removed easily after finish application. Ground heights are 1/2", 3/4" and 7/8".
Available in galvanized steel or zinc.

Expansion Joints
provide the same
features as their Shallow-V companions with the added benefit of a 3/4"
extension to the reveal depth. This addition enables stress relief in areas
where extreme wall expansion and contraction will occur and when the
sheathing and lath must be broken behind the joint area. A factory-applied
tape keeps seams unclogged and is easily removed for a clean finish after the
surface is completed. It’s commonly used in soffit areas.
Deep-V is superior to plastic or caulk joints because it will not fail due to
freeze/thaw changes or exposure to UV rays.

Dietrich expansion joint #40 is a two-piece, slip joint that
finishes butt ends of adjacent panels in wide or tall walls
and ceilings to allow for multi-directional movement. Panels
are attached to parallel studs through the expansion joint
flanges, enabling the finished surface to expand or contract
naturally without cracking. These are ideal for joining
dissimilar wall types such as wood framing to CMU and
at construction joints.

Caution: Additional weather shields should be installed behind the joint
to enhance the weather resistance of this system.
#40 Expansion Joints should be used where excessive
horizontal and vertical movement may occur. They give
better results than J-Trim when used as a feature strip or as
a wall-to-ceiling joint. Atrium walls, wide wall areas and
structural column-through ceiling areas are some of
their special applications. These offer broad functional
and aesthetic opportunities. Adjustable expansion opening
or reveal is 1/4" to 5/8". Ground heights are 1/2", 3/4" and 7/8".

F.H.A.7 Foundation Weep Screed (FHA7)

Dietrich F.H.A.7. foundation weep screed protects the stop edges of stucco and exterior
insulated finish system materials at the sill plate. It’s commonly referred to as F.H.A. Screed
because it meets all pertinent F.H.A. requirements as part of a drainage system for exterior
stucco applications. The 3-1/2" nailing flange serves as a straight-edge stop at the sill plate line
and flashing when water-resistant paper or paper-backed lath is installed over the flange.
The bottom of the vertical nailing flange must terminate at or below the bottom of the sill
plate or the bottom of the shear panel. This will ensure a tight connection between the
bottom flange of the weep screed and the foundation. Bonding holes are punched in the 7/8"
or 1-3/8" V-grounds to enable keying. The weeping occurs along the surface of the angular
bead. Also available without bonding holes and in 28 gauge (FHAE) for non-code work.
The Uniform Building Code (UBC)* requires that all foundation screeds have a 3-1/2"
nailing flange, weep holes and a minimum thickness of 26-gauge steel.

vapor barrier. The SI36 meets all other applicable codes with respect to 3-1/2" nailing
flange, 26-gauge galvanized steel and 7/8" ground.

Stucco, Screeds and Exterior Finishing Products
Dietrich 1-3/8" J-weep low-back is commonly used as a stop around door and window openings or in areas where stucco or EIFS
terminations abut dissimilar wall types. Dietrich 1-3/8" J-weep low-back is nail, screw or staple-attached to the frame or sheathing,
then foam insulation, cement board or metal lath can be installed over it. In any case, the protruding ridge of the metal must extend
beyond the plane of overlaid materials to serve as a ground for the stucco or EIFS application. Installed in conjunction with 1" rigid
insulation associated with one-coat plaster stucco systems, the 1-3/8" ground provides proper depth for plaster keying. Galvanized
for corrosion protection, it also is available with weep holes ( JWLB).
1-3/8" J-Weep with a 2" nailing flange should not be used as a foundation weep screed for three-coat stucco applications.
This casing or plaster stop bead should only be used on approved one-coat systems.
The Uniform Building Code (UBC)* requires that all weep screeds have a 3-1/2" nailing flange, weep holes and a minimum
thickness of 26-gauge steel. This product does not conform to code-required work if used as a foundation weep.

J Weep High-Back
Dietrich J-weep high-back plaster stop is a J-shaped squarenosed
trim manufactured from 26-gauge galvanized steel
with 7/8" or 1-3/8" grounds and 3-1/2" nailing flange.
Punched weep holes allow for use as a sill weep screed or
screed and trim around wall openings. Squared bends
accommodate 1" rigid insulation and 3/8" one-coat stucco
applications.
Dietrich J-weep high-back ( JWP) meets the Uniform
