NORTH WEST AREA EVERYONE’S BUSINESS • Flood relief tour with Nathan Thompson & John Russell - The tour hosted by the Wandella, Murrabit & Macorna FCs engaged their local communities in providing an entertaining evening with the message of “there’s no shame in asking g for help”. p Bruce Petering North West Central Area Manger 2011 HIGHLIGHTS • North West Central Premiership Dynasties - Long Premiership runs are becoming the norm in the North West, including the record breaking run of nine straight fl ags by the Horsham Demons FC. Others of note include Kalkee & Wandella 4 straight, Golden Square 3 in a row and Bridgewater back to back. • Castlemaine, Kyneton, and Maryborough Junior Review - A long and comprehensive review has taken place during the 2011 season involving the Junior District Leagues of Castlemaine & Kyneton. Over 20 interviews, feedback and demographic analysis resulted in a number of recommendations across the broader region. The main recommendation being the merging of the two Junior competitions. • Altona Sports Club Donation - A wonderful good news story to come out of tragic circumstances. The city based Altona Sports Club, with no affi liation to rural sports clubs or their communities, generously donated $17,000 to the 42 WORKSAFE VICTORIAN COUNTRY LEAGUE - Annual Report 2011 Charlton FC to assist their recovery from fl ooding. A bus load of Altona Members hand delivered the cheque and dined out on country hospitality. • NWC Centurions - A big year for the full forwards of the North West. In total seven sharpshooters across the region passed the century mark, with Gavin Kelm from Taylors Lake topping the list for the entire state with 160 goals for the season. • Representative footy - The North West was again well represented in State representative teams in 2011. A total of 19 players wore the Big V, six in the Div 1 side, eight in Div 2 and fi ve in the Under 18’s. • Major Redevelopment – As a result of funding assistance from the Country Football & Netball Program the QEO in Bendigo has seen a total resurfacing program completed that has transformed the playing arena into a fi rst class playing venue.
