He went on to complete a master’s degree in thesame faculty and graduated in 1996. Sako worked with Riken Yamamoto &Field Shop in Japan until 2004, and decided to establish Sako Architects inBeijing in 2004, where he now employs a mix of both Chinese and Japanesestaff members. He has widely explored the architectural scene in China,taking part in a range of projects from Hangzhou and Beijing to Chengduand Tianjin. Sako endeavours to imbue all his designs with a genuineconnection to the human experience; he has also made a concerted effortnot to allow changing trends or stereotypes affect the nature of his work.This has resulted in Sako being the recipient of a number of awards both inJapan and China.迫 慶 一 郎 生 於 1970 年 ,1996 年 先 後 完From 1989 to 1994, Zhu Xiaofeng attended Shenzhen University. Afterhe completed his undergraduate studies he moved to the US to furtherhis education and in 1999, graduated from the Harvard UniversityGraduate School of Design with a master’s degree in architecture. Uponthe completion of his degree, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates recruitedZhu to work for them as associate principal and senior designer in thefirm’s New York office. After five years’ experience in New York, Zhudecided to return to China and establish his own architecture firm. In2004, he co-founded Scenic Architecture Office in Shanghai, where heis both partner and design principal of the firm. A graduate of the Design Academy inEindhoven, The Netherlands, Hoekstra made a stopover in Hong Kongon his way home from a study trip in Japan and never left. He set upThree Dogs in 1997 with stylist Esther van Wijck, specialising exclusivelyin design consultancy for retail interiors, servicing retailers and brands inAsia-Pacific. He went on tograduate with a master’s degree in architecture in 1999. During hisstudies, Ho worked as an architectural assistant for Rocco Design on theInternational Finance Centre and in 1998, built on this experience as anarchitectural designer for Kazuyo Sejima & Associates in Japan. Back in Hong Kong, Yung obtained a master’sin architecture from the University of Hong Kong, later joining RoccoDesign in 1998 and establishing Archtude in 2000. Having had his fill ofmacro-architecture, Yung decided to shift his focus towards morediminutive forms. He teamed up with his wife, Caroline Ma, to formJason Caroline Design in 2001, with the pair angling their attention onthe residential and hospitality realms. Yung believes that the contexts ofliving and dining have become starting points for exploring andunderstanding changes in culture and human desires; a means toinvestigate the ephemeral state of architecture. Furthermore, bydesigning from the inside-out, the duo hope to challenge theboundaries of defined interior spaces while continuing their search formodernity and the aesthetics of local culture. A regular consultant forthe South China Morning Post’s design column, Yung has also won anumber of awards, including the Greater China Outstanding DesignAward for Spatial Design (Florient Rise showflat) in 2008, whichfollowed a win in the same category the year earlier for ’Spa as Home’.Yung also sat on the judging panel for the Perspective Awards 2008.Philip Tang and Brian Ip 鄧 子 豪 及 葉 紹 雄 PTang Studio, Hong KongAfter earning his master’s degree in architecture at the University of London and qualifying as anarchitect in the UK, Philip Tang establishing the eponymous PTang Studio in Hong Kong 10 years ago. Ahighly acclaimed professional in the fields of commercial, hospitality and residential design, Tang’s styleis modest, focusing on getting back to basics. Brian Ip, a member of the Hong Kong Designers’Association, joined PTang Studio in 2002 as chief designer and, together, the team has handled projectsspanning a wide range of scale and type. The diversity of their work can be seen from small-scaleresidential projects and show-flat design to large-scale commercial works such as corporateheadquarters. The company now has a total of 1,300staff worldwide. Lam became a qualified architect in 2000 after passing theHong Kong Institute of Architects examination and is registered with theArchitects’ Registration Board. Her outstanding design talent and leadershiphas seen her rise up the ladder at Aedas to the position of director within 10years. With design as her prime focus, Lam leads a team of up to 20designers at Aedas. It was a solution which offeredimmediate relief and shelter, albeit temporary, to those who had losttheir homes. Judges praised the design for its choice of material andconstruction application, which tackled theproblem of time, skills and resources inSichuan after the quake. He is chairman of thecommunity development committeeat the Hong Kong Institute ofArchitects, and also sits on the boardof directors of the Hong KongArchitecture Centre. Among his notedwork is the glass pavilion for theDiocesan Boys School, an officiallygraded monument. Blending a contemporary approach with traditional themes,Yewn only creates one-of-a-kind or limited editionpieces. In 2005, he took first place at Hong Kong’sDTC Diamond Award. In the same year, hisconceptual store, Life of Circle, was voted asone of the top 25 stores in the world by Forbesmagazine. Also a successful artist, Yewn hasseven solo exhibitions to his name, with hisworks collected by the Hong KongHeritage Museum and by the city ofMontpellier in France. In one necklace, for example, a toygun sits next to a large gold coin, a toy mushroom is placed under a watch strap and large bows hangwith gold trim and thick gold chain. Suen founded design group Blank Institute inChina and Berlin two years later, when he also opted to defer completion of his doctorate studies atMusashino. One of his more prominent works was to subvert public expectation of what a book shouldlook like with a proposal for a new mechanism for book design, and has been involved in design ofvarious books and magazines such as Izzue and Tofu. Based in London with a production studio in Shanghai, the firm’sunique approach, based on an emotional dimension, an archetypal memory or a physical sensation, hasearned significant recognition across the world. With an attention to craft, narrative and execution, thestudio is pushing the boundaries of ordinary objects. Wokmedia’s work is part of the permanentcollection at the Museum of Art and Design New York and has been exhibited internationally, at venuessuch as the Design Museum London, the Moca Taipei, the Hangaram Museum Seoul and the HolonDesign Museum Tel Aviv. In 2007, he presented his Ladyland soloexhibition in Hong Kong, exploring the reversal of dominance betweenfemininity and masculinity. Earlier that year, he used famous HongKong actor Chow Yun Fat as a ’dress-up doll’ in Chow Yun Fat’s FittingRoom exhibition, depicting another dimension of the Hong Kongcelebrity and his evolution from local performer to Hollywood star.Regarded as a leading young artist in Hong Kong with his worksamong the most sought-after and collectable, Shieh’s works are alsoamong the collections of international institutions such as theAshmolean Museum, the University of Oxford, and the Queensland ArtGallery, Brisbane.Outside his own artistic endeavours, he participates in localart-related programmes and teaches at a number of Hong Konginstitutions. Inrecent years, Lam has focused on site-specificcreation and works that explore relationshipsbetween cultural development and humanactivities, such as her Shahaijing series, whichwas inspired by environmental protectionand ecology issues. Achieving a merit award in the Hong KongIndependent Short Film & Video Awards with an animation shortly afterwards, he launched a freelancecareer in illustration, comic books, animation and scriptwriting.In 2001, his illustration for Kowloon Dairy Ovaltine won silver awards at both the New York Festivalsand the HK4As Creative Awards. By that time, he had been involved in writing programmes forCommercial Radio Hong Kong, and his work had been widely published in local magazines. He was alsoinvolved in the cover art design of music albums.Siu Hak has pursued a career as a comic artist since 2004, when he established the independentcollective Springrolllll with local comic artists Craig Au Yeung, Eric So, Ted Yeung, and Chi Hoi. In 2006,they released their debut work, Hong Kong Springrolllll at the Comix Festival Fumetto in Lucerne, afterpresenting their works in Comix Magneto exhibition at Hong Kong Art Centre. In their view, Korea has potentialfor growth, even though growth is not that perceptible yet. Joon&Junesee themselves as capable of impressing the global design world, whichthey achieved at the 100% Design Tokyo 2008 with their Flat Bulb,which overwhelmed the international and domestic design communities.One-third smaller than a normal light bulb, Flat Bulb succeeded by beingeco-friendly in reducing the costs of packaging and transportation — itsslim shape allows bulbs to be easily stacked and prevents breakage as itdoes not roll around like a standard bulb. This design demonstrates thedesign philosophy of Joon&June: to dissolve the unconscious responsetowards uncomfortable feelings that arise in everyday life.第 三 屆 無 印 良 品 國 際 設 計 獎 得 主 Kim Joonhyun 及 Kwon Minjoo 於 2007 年 攜 手 成 立Joon&June 設 計 事 務 所 , 而 設 計 團 隊 名 字 Joon&June 是 來 自 二 人 的 綽 號 。 韓 國 首 爾 的 急 速發 展 啟 發 他 們 的 設 計 才 華 , 更 讓 他 們 決 意 成 為 設 計 師 。 他 們 認 為 韓 國 的 設 計 市 場 的 發 展潛 力 , 指 日 可 待 , 而 二 人 的 設 計 亦 為 韓 國 及 國 際 設 計 舞 台 帶 來 驚 喜 , 如 2008 年 在 東 京100% Design 展 示 的 Flat Bulb。Flab Bulb 設 計 的 成 功 之 處 是 達 到 環 保 標 準 , 形 狀 比 一 般的 燈 泡 小 三 分 一 , 減 低 包 裝 及 運 輸 成 本 , 而 纖 細 的 體 積 不 會 像 其 他 的 燈 泡 容 易 滾 動 , 可防 止 破 損 。Flab Bulb 證 明 了 Joon&June 的 設 計 理 念 , 就 是 解 決 我 們 日 常 生 活 上 一 些 不 方便 的 好 設 計 。Onizou 是 兩 位 來 自 歐 洲 的 遊 牧 設 計 師 : 來 自 德 國 的Gerhard ’Oni’ Seizer 及 來 自 瑞 Klara ’Zou’ Sibeck。 他們 甘 願 為 創 作 而 放 下 所 有 工 作 , 花 一 年 的 時 間 遊 走各 地 , 參 與 不 同 的 設 計 活 動 。 自 稱 最 理 想 的 遊 牧 組合 , 透 過 舉 行 設 計 工 作 室 、 跟 其 他 的 遊 牧 設 計 奇 才會 面 交 流 及 體 驗 穿 洲 過 省 的 創 作 生 活 , 尋 找 遊 牧 生活 的 意 義 。 他 們 認 為 親 身 接 觸 是 設 計 師 尋 找 靈 感 的最 好 方 法 。 組 成 Onizou 之 前 ,Gerhard 跟 Klara 在 知名 的 設 計 機 構 曾 任 要 職 。Gerhard 用 了 三 年 的 時 間 成立 及 營 運 上 海 的 Wild Design 設 計 事 務 所 , 亦 曾 在日 本 松 下 的 設 計 部 工 作 , 是 首 位 在 該 部 門 工 作 的 外籍 人 士 。Klara 亦 曾 在 上 海 Wild Design 設 計 事 務 所工 作 , 當 時 在 工 作 期 間 認 識 了 如 今 的 合 作 伙 伴Gerhard。 此 外 , 她 還 在 中 國 經 營 自 家 的 設 計 公 司 ,專 門 為 瑞 典 客 戶 提 供 設 計 及 生 產 工 作 。Klara 大 學 時修 讀 工 程 , 但 早 已 對 產 品 設 計 項 目 的 發 表 產 生 興趣 。Onizou 到 過 的 地 方 包 括 中 國 的 泰 山 、 上 海 、 台灣 、 香 港 及 成 都 。PRODUCT DESIGNOnizou is made up of two nomadic Europeandesigners — Gerhard ’Oni’ Seizer from Germanyand Klara ‘Zou‘ Sibeck from Sweden — whoembarked on a year-long creative journey totravel the world and participate in design eventsalong the way. The self-proclaimed ’ideanomads’ pursue exploration of nomadicconcepts along the tour by holding workshops,meeting genuine nomads and experiencing anomadic lifestyle. They believe that getting firsthandexperience is essential for a designer tocome up with cool ideas. Prior to Onizou, Seizerand Sibeck had accumulated a wealth ofexperience working with significant designorganisations. Seizer spent three years at WildDesign in Shanghai, where his major tasks were toopen and run the office; and five years withPanasonic’s design department in Japan, where hewas the first foreigner to work there. Sibeck alsoworked at Wild Design Shanghai, which is whereshe met her future business partner. She alsoowned her own company in China, providingproduct development and manufacturing servicesfor Swedish clients. She studied engineering backin college, but developed a profound interest inproject presentations. Onizou has travelled toplaces such as Taishan Mountain, Shanghai,Taiwan, Hong Kong and Chengdu.PRODUCT DESIGN
