3. Investment in leveling machines: Great importance is attached to the flatness of heavy plates in ensuring their reliable, highly efficient processing and optimized service. Dillinger Hütte GTS customers know that their plates are notable for particularly good flatness. Our aim is to supply our products not just in conformity to the requirements of the relevant standards, but instead to assure particularly demanding flatness specifications well above these requirements throughout the entire format spectrum. We have invested in new leveling and plate measurement systems for this purpose. Plates up to a width of 5200 mm, a thickness of 300 mm and a length of 19 m can be leveled on a press specially designed for working of high plate thicknesses and exerting a leveling force of 6500 t. These capabilities make this press the most powerful of its type anywhere in the world. A new hot plate leveler which, in interaction with the cooling installation, permits achievement of enhanced flatness specifications for intensively cooled plates, and for thermomechanically rolled plates (TMCP), in particular, has also been installed in the rolling line of the mill. 4. Investments in finishing equipment: Extension of cutting capacities, both in the shearing line and in flame-cutting installations, makes it possible to cut the entire format range of heavy plates to net tolerances with high accuracy. Particular features of the equipment installed here include a plasma and water-jet cutting machine, which assure optimum cut edge quality and -tolerances even for sophisticated special grades. 5. Investments in heat-treatment facilities: Additional facilities for final heat treatment of plates (normalizing, tempering, annealing and quenching + tempering), and developments in the process control of heat-treatment furnaces, underline our market leadership in the field of heavy plate with complex heat-treatment and elevated quality requirements. Investments in new, ultra-modern roller hearth furnaces have therefore been made at both Dillingen and Dunkirk. 6. Investments in steel application support: Dillinger Hütte GTS supports its customers with more than "just" ultramodern heavy-plate products - whether it's questions concerning plate workability, or use for a particular application, our advisory service supports clients to use the technological potentials of our plates to the limit. Dillinger Hütte GTS is investing here, too: one good example is the commissioning in the welding laboratory of a new "Gleeble" equipment, a welding-cycle simulator which provides the user with even more detailed data concerning his plates' weldability and welding characteristics. All these investments again contribute to achieving our central aim of developing top ultramodern cost-efficient solutions in steel, jointly with our customers.
