IED Madrid
Over 45 years ago, the IED was founded as
an academic institution specializing in all
disciplines of design, visual communications
and fashion, with nine branches in
Italy, Spain and Brazil. The IED has been in
Madrid for over 15 years with two branches
that are home to 1,400 students. Both are
located in the city center near the neighborhoods
of Malasaña and Gran Vía. Today,
the IED Madrid is a Private Institution for
Higher Arts Education in Design that offers
Official Degrees in Design for undergraduate
degrees, Master’s degrees, one-year
programs, executive courses, specialization
courses and summer courses.
The IED Madrid offers comprehensive
training for the new design professional,
conscious of the times and the environmental,
social, economic and political needs and
demands that will form the foundation of
future society.
Thanks to the IED’s continuous relationship
with the business world, all of our programs
rely on the support of multiple companies
and institutions, such as: Apple, Canal +,
Fun&Basics, iGuzzini, Missoni, Philips,
Audi, Inditex, Electrolux, VIPS, Lancia,
Alitalia, Sony, Vitra, Havaianas and Bombay
Sapphire.
Furthermore, the IED Madrid is a cultural
institution that disseminates design and
its links to other disciplines, including architecture,
art, film and music. Exhibitions,
conferences and events are organized with
a vision of the future through innovation
and experimentation.
We offer educational options that are the
result of an analysis of the current market
and the demand for active professionals.
IED Master
IED Master is the IED Madrid’s graduate
school, a laboratory for debate and investigation
that provides the best conditions
for learning in a strategic environment: a
place for thinking about the present and
designing the future.
The IED Master’s programs, which were
conceived as a proposal for continued education,
effectively prepare students in the
fields of design and communications for
an increasingly demanding market. This
educational journey combines a cultural
context, transversal knowledge and technical
specialization.
All the programs offer students a multidisciplinary,
international vision, including the
execution of real projects in collaboration
with companies and industry professionals.
The IED Master’s objective is to train future
professionals with a creative, innovative
profile, requirements that are currently
necessary to successfully face the most
demanding situations in today’s professional
reality.
All images in this leaflet depict projects done by IED students.
* This is an informative leaflet, subject to changes and future updates.
• We encourage multidisciplinary
knowledge in the fields of design and
communications, allowing our students
to achieve a broader perspective of professional
and personal development.
• We provide rigorous specializations in
each specific professional area with an
academic methodology that combines
theory with practice, culminating in
the execution of a final project, which is
tutored by the best professionals in the
industry.
• We teach students to develop advanced
communicative abilities and manage
their acquired knowledge.
The IED Master’s programs are designed
for college graduates, professionals and
freelancers in the fields of design and
communications, as well as the business
world in general. They were conceived to
provide a quality educational experience
that guarantees the opportunity for personal
and professional growth.
Total Design Summer
Introduction
Total Design
Students will develop their creative
abilities through experimental workshops
in the following areas: fashion design,
product design and graphic design.
Students will have the opportunity to
study with high-level professionals and
acquire the design process methodology
and a command of the necessary tools for
approaching a transversal project.
Objectives
The objective of this transversal course
is to encourage students to develop their
own creative potential in three different
areas. The workshops will be lead by
highly respected professionals who will
train and guide participants in strengthening
their creativity through classes
and practical exercises, giving them the
opportunity to learn about the different
steps involved in a multidisciplinary
creative process.

Course Programm
Creative Area
Fashion workshop
Students will conduct a tour through the
world of fashion via different creative proposals,
studying the different production
processes involved in the design of a piece.
Design workshop
The objective is to enable participants to
analyze and evaluate the different existing
relationships between a common product
that is used on a daily basis and its true role
in our daily lives. The idea is to reestablish,
through design, the action of discovering
or rediscovering the purposes these objects
may have that no longer form a part of
our day-to-day lives – they may have been
forgotten because they are broken, we have
grown tired of them, or because their original
purpose is no longer necessary.
Graphic Design Workshop
Being a graphic designer means thoughtfully
using typographies, shapes, colors,
photographs… but also knowing how to understand
an assignment. Our work is both
greatly creative and strategic at the same
time. In this workshop, we will develop
different assignments with the methodology
used by professional designers; the
resulting amazing graphic projects are
totally “real” in the sense that they are
based on the daily reality of professional
graphic designers.
Methodology
The course is divided into: 3 workshops
(creative workshops) and cultural visits.
I. Workshops: intensive experimental
workshops will be held, each with a duration
of 24 hours throughout the course of
one week. The workshops will be given by
professional experts, who will instill students
with the knowledge necessary for the
study and development of creative exercise.
II. Cultural visits: students will make a
series of guided visits on the weekends to
the city’s best museums, complementing
their education in the different areas of design.
Madrid offers one of the most important
museum itineraries in the world: the
Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Art Center
and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
