Ralph Joryb. 25 Jan 1875 Salem, Marion Co, ORd. 19 Jun 1879 drowned in Willamette River, Marion Co, ORburied Salem Pioneer Cemetery, Salem, Marion Co, ORSee: obit for Alfred Jory aboveDROWNED About 5:00 yesterday morning the deep tones of the fire bellbrought many of our citizens out on the streets at perhaps an earlier hour than theyotherwise would have appeared…..Thursday afternoon about 3:00 pm two of H.S.Jory’s little boys, Alford and Ralph, aged respectively ten and five years strayedaway from home and proceeded down the road towards the covered bridge. Noparticular notice was paid to them and they were not missed until the eveningmeal. Upon not appearing at that time fears began to arise of their being lost andsearch was immediately commenced. Many of the citizens joined in hunting thelittle wanderers, but they were no where to be found. The last that could be heardof them was that they were playing around the large wheel in the street oppositethe Flouring Mill, about 6:30 in the evening. This led some to think of the riverand hastening that way, ‘twas but a few moments until their hats were found, andimmediately under them in about nine feet of water, the bodies were found, lyingabout five feet apart.Other Jory Family:Jory, Thomas C. 1882 Estate Wasco County A-191My mom got Howard Jory’s records when he died (a former researcher).
