With all loads Chamber 6 gave thehighest velocities and Chamber 2 the lowest. On the other hand, Chamber 3 gavebest velocities with the lead bullets andNumber 5 with jacketed bullets. I thinkthese are random results and can find nocorrelation to either gaps or throatdimensions.Logic told me that the higher pressurethe load the greater the pressure loss, andvelocity loss, was likely to be through thegap. The two .357 Magnum loads (I and 3)seem to support this though Load I isclearly the higher pressure load.It was the first and second ofhis string offive W-W rounds that "made our day."Number I went off like a cannon and weboth jumped. When I checked the conversiontable for the chronograph it hadregistered 1722fps! No damage to the gun, however. Round number 2 Haywoodmanaged to put right smack through themiddle of my back skyscreen on thechronograph. I guess I know now whysome lawmen complain about the .357 notbeing a good manstopper ... the chronographkept right on working .....without a bobble! ~HANDGUN HUNTING(Continuedfrom page 48)will vary, but in the majority of deer huntingsituations where the range does notexceed about fifty yards, a competenthandgunner will need no more than threeto five seconds.Normally, from either the sitting orprone position, it is possible to deliver accuratefire through an arc or cone of perhapsa maximum of thirty degrees. Toincrease the arc or cone, it then becomesnecessary to make a very definite adjustmentin the basic position itself. This is notthe case when the braced kneeling, twohandpositio'n is used. Its cone of effectivefire-without any major torso adjustment-isfor most handgunners at leastone hundred and fifty degrees, and for afew handgunners it approaches one hundredand eighty degrees I Using this position, the competent handgunner is able tovisually follow the movement of an intermittentlyconcealed/exposed game animal, and should an opportunity for a clearshot occur the handgunner is more likelyto make a one shot vital hit.Whatever the anatomical peculiaritiesof an individual's stance, if the personis' able to do his quickest and most accurateshooting therefrom, then that stancecan be considered to be .....the best. ~AMERICAN HANDGUNNER .
