The New Kid <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> BlockJACK PRELUTSKY (poetry) was born in Brooklyn, NewYork. He attended New York City Public Schools andstudied voice at <strong>the</strong> High School of Music and Art. Heenrolled in Hunter College in Manhattan but left so<strong>on</strong>after "to become a beatnik.” Jack has been a cab driver,a bus<strong>boy</strong>, a photographer, a furniture mover, a potter,and a folk singer. He enjoys bicycling, playingracquetball, woodworking and cooking. He lives inWashingt<strong>on</strong> State with h<strong>is</strong> wife Carolynn and a vastcollecti<strong>on</strong> of poetry books and frogs in every shape, size,and form--except living! There was a time when Jackcouldn't stand poetry. In grade school he had a teacherwho left him with <strong>the</strong> impressi<strong>on</strong> <strong>that</strong> poetry was <strong>the</strong>literary equivalent of liver. He red<strong>is</strong>covered poetry in h<strong>is</strong>twenties, and he decided <strong>that</strong> he would write aboutthings <strong>that</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>kid</str<strong>on</strong>g>s really cared about, and <strong>that</strong> he wouldstrive to make poetry delightful. If you are twelve orunder, you have probably read – and memorized – atleast <strong>on</strong>e poem by Jack Prelutsky. He has been writingpoetry for more than twenty years and has publ<strong>is</strong>hedmore than three dozen books for children.JOHN FORSTER (music) began writing and performingh<strong>is</strong> unique brand of musical <strong>the</strong>atre and satire as anundergraduate at Harvard, where he founded <strong>the</strong> l<strong>on</strong>grunningrevue The Propositi<strong>on</strong> and wrote for <strong>the</strong> HastyPudding.
