Quality <strong>Water</strong> Service<strong>Water</strong> utilities have a unique responsibility.We provide quality drinking water everytime you turn on your water faucet. Ouremployees conduct an extensive treatment<strong>and</strong> monitoring program designed toachieve compliance with all state <strong>and</strong>federal water quality requirements.Every year we send you a copy of our<strong>Water</strong> Quality Report—a comprehensivedescription of the quality of your drinkingwater. We can send you an extra copy ofthe report for your area or, if necessary,put you in touch with a member of ourwater quality team. The <strong>Water</strong> QualityReports are also available on theIllinois <strong>American</strong> <strong>Water</strong> website atwww.illinoisamwater.com.Starting <strong>and</strong> Stopping <strong>Your</strong> <strong>Water</strong> ServiceOne call is all it takes to turn on your water service if yourhome or business is already connected to our system.Simply contact our Customer Service Center <strong>and</strong> arepresentative will take a verbal application from the personresponsible for paying the bill. Following your application forservice, we will make a service call to read the meter <strong>and</strong>will start your billing with an actual meter reading. It may benecessary to arrange an appointment for us to enter yourhome or business to read the meter.We may request that an adult be present when our servicerepresentative comes to turn on your water. Ple<strong>as</strong>e notifyus at le<strong>as</strong>t three working days before you want your waterservice started. Before your water is turned on, ple<strong>as</strong>e checkto ensure all water outlets, both inside <strong>and</strong> out, are turnedoff to prevent water damage that could occur from openfaucets. Ple<strong>as</strong>e notify us at le<strong>as</strong>t five working days beforeyou want your water service disconnected.If you are applying for service at a home or business that isnot currently connected to our system, ple<strong>as</strong>e contact ourCustomer Service Center for instructions.<strong>Water</strong> Lines, Sewer Lines <strong>and</strong> <strong>Water</strong> Meters—<strong>Your</strong> <strong>Responsibilities</strong> <strong>and</strong> OursIllinois <strong>American</strong> <strong>Water</strong> is responsible for the waterdistribution main in the street, the service connection fromthe water main to your property line, <strong>and</strong> the installation<strong>and</strong> maintenance of the water meter. All other water pipes,such <strong>as</strong> the plumbing system in your home or business <strong>and</strong>the service line from your home or business to the propertyline, are your responsibility to maintain. Electric wires shouldnot be grounded to your plumbing system, <strong>as</strong> doing so canpresent a safety hazard.
