NASA-STD-8739.4 with Change 6shown in Figure 9-13. Sleeving coverage dimensions are given in this figure. If a tight fit isrequired for the minimum diameter, additional sleeving may be required.CAUTION: EXTREME CARE SHALL BE EXERCISED TO ASSURETHAT THE AMOUNT OF HEAT APPLIED IS NOTDETRIMENTAL TO THE OBJECT BEING COVERED.WHEN OTHER TEMPERATURE-SENSITIVEMATERIALS AND PARTS ARE IN THE VICINITY, THEYSHALL BE PROTECTED FROM EXPOSURE TO DIRECTHEAT.Figure 9-13. Illustration of Shrink Sleeve Installation (Typical)9.10 Long Lengths of Shrinkable SleevingLong lengths of shrinkable sleeving installed over interconnecting harnesses and cables shallprovide protective coverage of the designated area without leaving residual stress in the material(Requirement). The sleeving shall be in contact with the interconnecting harness or cable alongits length (Requirement). One method of controlling endwise shrinkage (reduction in length) ofthe sleeving during installation is shown in Figure 9-14.NOTE:Medium to long lengths of harnesses/cables with shrinksleeving are extremely difficult to bend and coil withoutdamage.Page 49 of 114
