<strong>ICG</strong> T&C NEWSLETTER ● <strong>January</strong> <strong>2012</strong>NEW PUBLICATIONS FROM <strong>ICG</strong> T&CGuide to Root-Conflict Analysis (RCA+) for Technology <strong>and</strong>EngineeringBy Valeri Souchkov, Karel BolckmansRoot Conflict Analysis (RCA+) was introduced in 2003 <strong>and</strong> wasdesigned as a tool to help managing complexity of problems byidentifying a tree of contradictions which compose a problem <strong>and</strong>establishing rel<strong>at</strong>ionships between these contradictions.RCA+ is a domain-independent universal technique which can beperformed within the scope of a number of tasks. Unliketraditional methods of cause-effect analysis, RCA+ helps withrevealing <strong>and</strong> structuring number of rel<strong>at</strong>ed contradictions r<strong>at</strong>herfocusing on single causes <strong>and</strong> define links between them. Tosolve complex problems we should underst<strong>and</strong> wh<strong>at</strong> contradictions cre<strong>at</strong>e theseproblems. RCA+ can be used both together with <strong>TRIZ</strong> <strong>and</strong> independently in everyarea where conflicts <strong>and</strong> problems take place. While I deliver major part of lecturing, Dr.Tom Vaneker <strong>and</strong> Dr. Wessel Wits of the University of Twente assist me during thecourse.
