Simple face maskDESCRIPTIONMask has a soft plastic face piece, vent holes are provided to allow air to escape. Maximum50%-60% at15l/min flow.PURPOSEThis is a variable performance device. The oxygen delivered will be influenced by the oxygenflow rate and the patient’s tidal volume and breathing rate. They should not be used in patientswho are at risk of hypercapnic respiratory failure.ACTIONRATIONALE1 (If using simple face mask) Gentlyplace mask over the patient’s face,position the strap behind the head orthe loops over the ears then carefullypull both ends through the front of themask until secure.Ensure a comfortable fit and delivery ofprescribed oxygen is maintained.2 Check that strap is not across earsand if necessary insert paddingbetween the strap and head.To prevent irritation.3 Adjust the oxygen flow rate. Reservoir (non-rebreathe) maskDESCRIPTIONMask has a soft plastic face piece with flap-valve exhalation ports which may be removed foremergency air-intake. There is also a one-way valve between the face mask and reservoir bag.PURPOSEIn non re-breathing systems the oxygen may be stored in the reservoir bag during exhalation bymeans of a one-way valve.
