DaVinci Academy of Arts & Science 2013/2014 Student Supply Lists GRADES 6 - 8A note from the middle school team to students in 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade:Middle school is a unique time. Students want more autonomy, yet need more supervision. Students want lots of choices, yet cravepredictability. Last year, we tried to dictate an organization system to students by purchasing three ring binders, folders and thentelling students how to set them up exactly. This worked for some students, and failed miserably for others. The only system that will work for students is one that they believe in. We also know that organization is something that needs tobe taught and modeled. The first two weeks of school the core teachers will be spending time everyday discussing organization andstudy skills. During this time, the teachers will be discussing various systems that we have seen be successful for other students.6 th Grade specificsWe request that your child bring his/her choice of the following organization materials: a trapper keeper, folders, three-ring binder, accordion files. Your child is welcome to use whatever combination of these items that best meets his or her needs. Please keep inmind that organization materials for the following subjects will be necessary: math, science, reading, writing, social studies, art,Spanish, and electives. If the materials initially purchased are found to be insufficient, we will contact you to purchase additionalmaterials.7 th & 8 th Grade specificsIt is only after the two weeks of discussing ideas that we’ll ask students to return to school with a system they believe in.August 12-26: First two weeks of school. Study skills and organization taught in all core classes.August 27-29: Mandatory Intersession at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning CenterAugust 30-Sept. 3: Labor Day BreakSeptember 4: Students return to school with their choice of binders, folders, organization system.P.S. Lots more information regarding our Eagle Bluff trip will follow, but it is worth a mention now that we will be looking for parentvolunteers.
