Frank Thomas was chosen first alternate <strong>in</strong> the Mississippi selection of a candidatefor the annual Boy Scout “Report to the Nation.” Tishom<strong>in</strong>go <strong>County</strong> Board ofSupervisors put <strong>in</strong>to motion public legal action to build a new courthouse and jail. Topay for the proposed new courthouse and jail, the Board published its <strong>in</strong>tentions to issuebonds <strong>in</strong> an amount of $500,000 for the project. The new courthouse is to be located onland situated on Hwy. 25 South <strong>in</strong> Iuka, ly<strong>in</strong>g on the west side of the road across fromFrank’s Dairy. The <strong>County</strong> purchased 15 ½ acres <strong>in</strong> a block that was known formerly asthe Watson property. Gary Evans was namedpresident of the Iuka Student Government Council.NovemberThe Bank of Belmont and its branch, the Tishom<strong>in</strong>go Bank, converted to national bankstatus and became First Citizens National Bank. In the <strong>County</strong>, 4,500 ballots were cast <strong>in</strong>the president election. Countians went 5 to 1 for George Wallace. Voters also namedelection commissioners. They were J. R. Short-Coleman Park Water Association, Inc., revealed that due to the <strong>in</strong>crease and demandmore than 215 customers and some 16 square miles will be added to the orig<strong>in</strong>al Short-Coleman Park System. In a resolution passed by the Tishom<strong>in</strong>go <strong>County</strong> Board ofSupervisors, it will become law for all voters over the <strong>County</strong> to cast ballots on asupervisor from each district, rather than by only those liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the particular district. Apilot meet<strong>in</strong>g to form a Vocational Education Program for Tishom<strong>in</strong>go <strong>County</strong> was heldand attended by various educators, Yellow Creek Watershed official, TVA officials,Federal and State representatives, vocational education representatives, <strong>in</strong>terested localparties and those represent<strong>in</strong>g the Appalachian Development. Rep. Jamie L. Whitten was honored with anappreciation banquet at Coleman Park.
