Identify underground utility linesBe sure that all potential underground utility lineshave been identified and marked by the utilitycompany. This can be a life and death matter!Be aware of property linesBe sure that you are aware of your property lines. Ifyou are not certain about your property lines, it isadvisable to have your property surveyed beforeinstalling a fence. You are ultimately liable for itslocation!Walk the areaWalk the area to be fenced. Check for pool equipmentand utility lines. Typically, a utility company does notmark private underground lines. If you are not 100%certain, contact your pool installer for assistance (it'sa good idea to have him mark all underground linesbefore his final departure).Unpack and review packing listUnpack boxes and crosscheck all of your materialswith your packing list. Doing this will ensure thateverything that you need is present.Earmark types of panelsIf there are areas with a grade slope, identify andearmark your rackable panels for use in these areasbefore you begin. These will have wider holes for thepickets to go through.

String the lineYou are now ready to begin. First, hammer wood (ormetal) stakes into place and run a string along theentire line of fence. This string plays a critical role inmaking sure your fence is straight. Make it taut.Mark where to dig your post holesMark the location of the post holes on-center. Thekey to running a straight and true fence is for the postholes to line up with the string line. Use 72 1/2'' oncentermeasurements for installing 6' wide panels ofResidential or Commercial Grade fences with 2”posts. Adjust accordingly for wider or narrowerpanels. Some accessories may change the length of apanel, so always double check measurements or callyour <strong>Ultra</strong> reprehensive for information. Don't worryif you run into spacing problems. Any fence panelmay be cut to fit.The string will be your guideThe string you have already staked out will be yourstraight edge reference point until your project iscompleted! You will place all of your posts about1/4 inch to 1 inch from the taut string. It doesn'tmatter what you decide. It matters that you stayconsistent. IMPORTANT: Never let a post (oranything) touch or push against your string, otherwiseyou will interfere with the continuity of your fenceline.

Dig a few holes at a timeDig 6'' wide holes between 36'' to 42'' deep, depending on your part of the country. Set your postin the hole. Generally, your first post should be at atermination point, such as up against your house. Youdo not have to pre-dig all of your holes. It is okay –better, in fact – to dig as-you-go, perhaps just a fewextra holes at a time. It's a good idea to install yourgate posts first. With your posts installed plumb andtrue, the setting concrete will better support the fencepanels. Just remember to check on them to be surethey remain perfectly positioned and level until theconcrete sets. If they are out of position, the gate maynot function.<strong>Install</strong>ing a panel is quick and easyStart by attaching one section of fence to the post bysliding the notched horizontal rails of the fence panelinto the punched holes of the post. Then put a 1'' selftapping screw into the pre-drilled pilot hole tosecurely attach rail to post.Always level each postLevel each post and pour your mixed concrete intothe hole. Posts should always be leveled off of yourstring line reference point. Never jump ahead. Alwaysplace one panel and one post at a time. Leave theconcrete 3-4'' below grade. Place some dirt on top ofthe hole and pack it tight. This will help hold thefence level. Place a 2'' block under the fence panel tohold it at a consistent 2'' above grade. For this, youcan use pieces of wood or paver bricks.Set the gate openingFor staking out your gate, follow theserecommendations: The width of a gate refers to thewidth of the opening between the gate posts (insideto-inside,not distance on-center). If you have a 4'single gate, set posts for a 4' opening. If you have adouble gate, set the opening according to the gate

size. For example, if you have an 8' double gate, setposts for an 8' opening. The gate should swing outand away from area to be enclosed by fence. Alwaysmake sure that you have clearance to completely openthe gate without obstruction.Go back and adjust (if needed)As you move along, go back and level the alreadyinstalled panels. Posts may shift until the concrete hasset.Use your sight to determine adjustmentsUsing your sight, a level, and the reference pointstring, ''tweak'' the posts in and out and up and down.If you are following the grade, stand back along thefence and adjust the fence up or down to flow withthe grade.Corner PostsIf your line ends with a corner, the horizontal rails ofthe next panel must be notched to fit the post. If youhave to cut a panel to length, you must cut a ¾” longx ¼” tall notch in the rail to fit into the post.Snap the caps into placeWhen all panels have been installed and cementaround posts is fully set, install the post caps bysnapping them into place. They do not requirescrews! A rubber mallet may be helpful but is notabsolutely necessary. Just be careful.

Time for the gateAfter you have installed all of your fence panels andhave leveled the gate posts, it's time to hang the gates.Preparing to attach the gateAfter you make sure your gate posts are level and thecement is fully set, confirm the direction of the swingand bring in the gate.<strong>Install</strong> the hinges<strong>Install</strong> hinges on the gate posts first. Use 1'' long selftapping screws. Center the gate in the opening andput only one screw in each hinge. This is to allow forsome final adjustment. If installing self-closinghinges, adjust tension in the hinges for a proper swingrate.<strong>Install</strong> the gate latchNow install the gate latch per the includedinstructions.Putting in the remaining screwsIf the gate swings properly, put the remaining screwsin the hinges. Do not use the gate until the cementfully sets. YOU ARE DONE!
