The <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Transport</strong> <strong>Authority</strong> honoured 16 contractors for excellent WSH practices atthe 13th Annual Safety Award Convention (ASAC). C916 McConnell Dowell SEA Pte Ltdreceived the top prize for which project. The full list of winners are available at Annex A.2. LTA Chairman, Mr Michael Lim, commended contractors on their high WSH standardsas many road and rail projects gain momentum. This has helped LTA in its pursuit ofexcellence in WSH performance, achieving its lowest accident frequency rate of 0.2 accidentsper million manhours worked for the last decade.3. The theme for this year’s Convention, “Driving Safety Excellence through BehaviourBased Safety (BBS)” emphasises behavioural modification to reinforce a positive WSH culturewithin the organization. Implementing BBS is the way forward to achieving WSH excellence asit motivates individuals to work safely and correct fellow-workers’ “at risk” behaviour. Insteadof the traditional top-down management led approach, BBS encourages workforce participationwith strong management support.4 This year, a total of 30 participating contracts from various categories were eligible forthe award. The finalists for the LTA Contractors Challenge Shield are shortlisted under theMega Category following a stringent LTA WSH audit, which includes a comprehensive reviewof the site’s WSH management system and worksite practices.Two New Categories of Safety Awards5 The awards also saw two new categories of WSH awards launched. The “Accident-FreeMillion Man-hours Recognition Award” is for main contractors who have achieved aconsiderable accident-free man-hour milestone without reportable accidents or major incidents;while the “Subcontractors’ Safety Recognition Award” gives due recognition to subcontractorswho have made a significant contribution to good WSH performance.Guidebook to Assist Contractors and Partners6 The LTA also launched a guidebook at the ceremony. The guidebook, on ‘WaterResource Management in LTA Sites’ focus on sustainable solutions for water resourcemanagement which aims to educate contractors and partners on the best management practices


2to prevent pollution of water bodies during construction.
