<strong>Artists</strong>&ScholarsA r t i s t s & S c h o l a r sAlex Bigney<strong>Harp</strong>istKIRKMONTAlexander has been playing the harp for over fifteenyears and performing professionally for almost aslong. Although his foundations are in classical technique,his true affinity lies with the Celtic music of his heritage.As a teen, he was fortunate to be mentored and influencedby musicians such as Barbara Magone, Alasdair Fraserand Deborah Henson-Conant. He is working on an albumwhich will be released later this year. It will includesome of the pieces to be played at the AHS performance.In addition to his solo work, Alexander and his two brothersperform as the Celtic group, Kirkmount. The trio havefour CDs to their credit and have been featured performersat events across the country. They are working on anew recording to be released later this year.Murray BorenDr. Boren is a prolific composer whose portfolioincludes nine operas, dozens of songs and choral works,nearly one hundred chamber compositions, and thirty-sixlarge-scale works for band or orchestra. He also writesfor the theatre, having provided music for recent productionsof Nathan the Wise, Wind in the Willows, Antigone andMacbeth. In 2008, he retired after 18 years of teaching atBrigham Young University and joined Lyon & Healy Westas “House Composer.” Dr. Boren has served as judge forAHS competitions, the Anne Adams Award, and at the2008 USA International Competition. His most recentharp composition, Movements from the Liturgical Dance [35,36, 37] was commissioned and recorded by the AuroraDuo for their CD, Melodie, to be released by MRS Music inOctober 2009.29ComposerSalt Lake City
