<strong>Artists</strong>&ScholarsSarah Bullen—student of Marcel Grandjany,Mildred Dilling, and Susan McDonald—began herorchestra career in 1981 as principal harp of the UtahSymphony. From 1987 to 1997, she held the same positionwith the New York Philharmonic, during whichtime she also served as harp department chairpersonat the Manhattan School of Music. As a critically acclaimedsoloist with more than fifty concerto appearances,Sarah has also served as chamber musician,lecturer, and judge at numerous AHS conferences, theWorld <strong>Harp</strong> Congress, and the USA International <strong>Harp</strong>Competition. Currently, Sarah holds the positions ofprincipal harp of the Chicago Symphony Orchestraand professor of harp at the Chicago College of PerformingArts at Roosevelt University. She authoredthe best-selling book, Principal <strong>Harp</strong>, A Guidebook forthe Orchestral <strong>Harp</strong>ist, with Principal <strong>Harp</strong> Book II soonto be published by Vanderbilt Music Company. Hersolo and chamber music recordings include The Essential<strong>Harp</strong> and Lyon & Healy Hall’s Inaugural Concert.She received both a bachelor’s and master’s of musicdegree from The Juilliard School.Sarah BullenChicago SymphonyOrchestraDavid Day has served as Curator of the Pratt<strong>Harp</strong> Collection and International <strong>Harp</strong> Archivessince 1987. Additional responsibilities at BrighamYoung University’s Harold B. Lee Library includeCurator of Music Special Collections and Music andDance Librarian. In addition to developing the International<strong>Harp</strong> Archives, his research interests includemusic bibliography, ballet music, 19th-century musicmanuscripts, and he has conducted extensive researchin Brussels, Paris, London and Bordeaux. Dr. Day alsocurrently serves as Chair of the Bibliography Commissionof the International Association of Music Libraries.Past positions in the same organization includeFounder and Chair of the Subject Commission forArchives and Chair of the Working Group on the InternationalRegistration of Music Archives. He holdsa Ph.D. in Musicology from New York University, anM.S. in Library and Information Sciences from theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and anM.A. in Musicology and a B.A. in Music Theory fromBrigham Young University.David DayInternational <strong>Harp</strong>Archives30
