PLAYER REPORT FULLBACKGROUNDDjaniny is a dream story made true: when he was 18 he was spotted at his own African country when the chairman of a regional Portugueseclub (from Azores Islands) who was there in a business trip decided to check on a local football tournament – he was signed right away andthe club managed to convince his family by offering him the chance to take a graduation course. He had his meals at school and had a smallroom within the club headquarters.He spent two years in the island playing the regional leagues and scored an amazing tally of 50 goals just to become a local hero – yet he wasstill the same simple and nice “giant”, always quiet, humble, smart, educated and willing to learn. During that time, and always while onschool holiday, he trialed at a couple clubs, including Third Division Tirsense (where his current agent met him) – but was refused for being“inexperienced”. Then he was called for the pre-season training at Santa Clara (Second League) last July – but a scout from Leiria was right onthe spot and managed to take him off to the club – a Premier League one.He has had an impressive start at Leiria, clearly above the team standard, and is now on the verge of being called to the Cape Verde mainnational team.His direct family is still all living at Cape Verde.DAY BY DAYDjaniny is a hard trainer – first to arrive and last to leave, strong willed and determined to improve and achieve.He may not be a natural leader, just like he has never been suggested as a bad influence or showing negative working ethics.His past and current managers and directors have always flattered and outlined his character; he has never had an unforgiving dispute withanyone at his clubs.RISING TO THE OCCASIONDjaniny has pretty much the same approach to every match – low profiled but focused, no more or less be it playing the big clubs or theothers.
