PLAYER REPORT FULLBACKGROUNDDjaniny is a dream story made true: when he was 18 he was spotted at his own African country when the chairman of a regional Portugueseclub (from Azores Islands) who was there in a business trip decided to check on a local football tournament – he was signed right away andthe club managed to convince his family by offering him the chance to take a graduation course. He had his meals at school and had a smallroom within the club headquarters. He spent two years in the island playing the regional leagues and scored an amazing tally of 50 goals just to become a local hero – yet he wasstill the same simple and nice “giant”, always quiet, humble, smart, educated and willing to learn. During that time, and always while onschool holiday, he trialed at a couple clubs, including Third Division Tirsense (where his current agent met him) – but was refused for being“inexperienced”. Then he was called for the pre-season training at Santa Clara (Second League) last July – but a scout from Leiria was right onthe spot and managed to take him off to the club – a Premier League one.He has had an impressive start at Leiria, clearly above the team standard, and is now on the verge of being called to the Cape Verde mainnational team. His direct family is still all living at Cape Verde.DAY BY DAYDjaniny is a hard trainer – first to arrive and last to leave, strong willed and determined to improve and achieve. He may not be a natural leader, just like he has never been suggested as a bad influence or showing negative working ethics. His past and current managers and directors have always flattered and outlined his character; he has never had an unforgiving dispute withanyone at his clubs.RISING TO THE OCCASIONDjaniny has pretty much the same approach to every match – low profiled but focused, no more or less be it playing the big clubs or theothers. Away at Sporting Lisbon he played a very good game, always very aware and willing to be part of both defensive and offensiveprocesses – even if he was too alone up front he fought for every ball and was rewarded with a goal.Given the current context, with the team lacking quality and real goal chances, he could be more selfish – and maybe he should.MEDIAMedia shy but friendly whenever is requested, very good public image, easy going and a large smile.Playing in Premier League seems to keep him unchanged, low profiled and always measuring his words and keeping his cool even when thePress is looking for some speculation – he has dealt very calmly with the usual transfer gossip, delegating any off the field issues to his agent. With his team doing badly in the current league, has shown composure and solidarity upon the squad, manager and board.www.globalscouting.infoPage 2

PLAYER REPORT FULLPLAYER ASSESSMENTOVERVIEW:Usually played as striker/target man, either in the 5-3-2/5-2-1-2/5-4-1 or 4-3-3.Stands out for his physical dimension in height and weight/volume with reasonable coordination and good relationship with the ball, whichhe likes to apply in the last third through vertical movements with relevant power, getting into the areas of service/finishing with ease.PHYSICAL:Height and volume above average with reasonable coordination, some problems in the reaction/coordination in short spaces and withcontact, eventually conditioned by “duck feet”; good resistance to contact, very strong in possession and on progression, strong andpowerful, hard to constrain in space.Does not change speed and is not very fast, but anticipates and thinks fast.Jumps for the ball and divides in the air, but less effective.MENTAL:Focused, correct and polite, keeps his temper even when physically challenged; some indolence when team is defending. When team is losing, never hides, takes responsibility.Does not fear failure – resilient and positive reaction.SPECIFIC SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS:WHEN TEAM HAS POSSESSIONGood relationship with the ball, ball control with solutions, with and without space.Reference/target men up front, shows good mobility in width, usually looks to be on the side of the ball; comfortable between lines, takespart in the construction process with quality, good reception and touch/pass fundamentals. On the air has more difficulties, should be able to use his height and volume with much more effectiveness. In the last third is very aggressive while in possession, attacks spaces with power, incisive and strong on contact, speeds up the process, evenif sometimes takes too long to define, compromising his effectiveness when opponent makes contact, but always knowing what to do.Shoots from mid-close range when he can, powerful, always with eyes on goal, using both feet.Off the ball is less alert and proactive, not attacking spaces behind the line and at finishing areas, showed no premeditated behaviors toattack spaces or the ball, including movements in the box – is not a natural goal guesser.Set pieces: does not take any of them, usually positioned in the box (reeling).WHEN TEAM DOES NOT HAVE POSSESSIONHas little effectiveness, does some oriented pressing in the 1 st phase but rarely moves down lines; eventually increases intensity andpredisposition when team is down on the score sheet; then looks for the best positioning when team recovers the next possession.Set pieces: usually marks tall men, eventually opponents’ central defenders.DEFENSIVE TRANSITIONSReacts to loss, but rarely moving down lines, and then repositions himself for the next possession.OFFENSIVE TRANSITIONSLooks to provide solutions in depth, looking for open lines to receive ball preferentially on feet, much less effective on the air; speeds up thegame; with ball attacks spaces and progresses until he is allowed to.www.globalscouting.infoPage 3

PLAYER REPORT FULLOVERALL:POSITIVES Overall physical dimension above average. Can play either alone as a reference striker or with another forward up front. Powerful on the ball, able to reach assisting and finishing zones. Relation with ball, intuition and details show relevant quality. Global profile above average with good assumptions to be boosted - player still far from maturity / maximum effectiveness and with agood attitude.NEGATIVES Not effective in depth, naive and unprepared to understand the contact, anticipated and intimidated by tougher opponents –especially on the air and/or the back. Not so much predisposition to jump for the ball, low effectiveness; needs to improve jumping/timing and heading/technical skills. Immaturity evident in all aspects: physical (contact and coordination perception of action-reaction in small spaces), tactical (withrelevance on the definition and off the ball movements, too static / positional) and technical (definition/timing). Sometimes becomes somewhat selfish, but his current team context and processes (especially offensive) give him no other chances inorder to push the team ahead to reach finishing areas.OVERALL RATINGCURRENT: RELEVANT AT AVERAGE PORTUGUESE PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB.Djaniny is still far from his maturity but his specific and relevant profile for his position, along with his fast learning personality, could bealready part of any of the 3 Portuguese big clubs (Benfica, Sporting, Porto), eventually as the last option in attack but with some relevantplaying time in Cup games, not so much in the League/European competitions.POTENTIAL: IMPORTANT FOR 3 RD BIGGEST PORTUGUESE CLUB.Djaniny has all the tools to become important for a club like Sporting - if the club has some room and time for investment, he can be a verygood piece of deal right now.CAREER vs MARKETDjaniny came out to the spotlight at a good age (20) but he did not have an educated formation as footballer – meaning that he will need tomature the different aspects of his game and flourish eventually later than usual. On the other hand, he has shown relevant specific skills and overall profile which are very hard to find in the current market: height withcoordination and skill/quality for his position. All in all, this year/season is the right time to move for him given the current estimated fee and considering development stage and re-salevalue – if the player stays at Leiria he may be not developing as he should (until he is not interesting anymore) or he may increase hisrelevance within the team (imploding his transfer fee).GLOBAL SCOUTING UNLIMITEDReport produced on 28/12/2011www.globalscouting.infoPage 4
