3 Basic Propertiesof CETRIS ® Cement BondedParticleboard3.7 Fire Protection PropertiesClassification of cement bonded particleboardby reaction to fire class pursuant to EuropeanstandardFor the purpose of unified classification of buildingmaterials a new system has been introduced, completedand implemented as standard EN 13 501-1Fire Classification of Building Products and BuildingConstructions – Part 1: Classification Based onResults of Tests of Reaction to Fire. This new system eliminates, in the given area, theprincipal differences between the national systemsof EU countries representing a serious obstacle tocommon trade. Another advantage of the system isthe more accurate evaluation of building products. The new test standards are closer to the results oflarge dimension tests, i.e. behaviour in the care ofactual fire.Classification of CETRIS ® cement bonded particleboardbased on its reaction to fire was performedon the basis of results of tests carried out pursuantto the following European standards:• EN ISO 1182:2002 – Non-Flammability Test• EN ISO 1716:2002 – Specification of BurningHeat• EN 13823:2002 – Test by Single Burning Item(SBI)• EN ISO 11925-2:2002 – Test of Ignitability by singleFlame Source (Inflammability Test)On the basis of these tests performed by theIBS – Institut für Brandschutztechnik undSicherheitsforschung Linz (Austria), CETRIS ® cementbonded particleboards are classified as A2. Itscomplementary classification of smoke generation iss1, its classification of flaming drops (particles) is d0,which means the resulting classification of A2-s1,d0.This result applies to classification of the board behaviourin fire conditions, except for flooring. The cement bonded particleboard is also classifiedpursuant to other national standards:• Pursuant to PN-B-02874:1996 (Protocol NP-595/02/JF, implemented) – classification niezapalny (nonflammable).3.8 Board Resistance against Arc Discharge of High Voltageand Low IntensityNew application of CETRIS ® cement bondedparticleboardCETRIS ® cement bonded particleboard is a universalboard material for interior and exterior use. Itis distinguished from other board materials by itshigh resistance to weather effects, fire, mechanicaldamage and demanding technological spaceconditions. On the basis of requirements coming from electricitydistribution companies, the cement bondedparticleboard CETRIS ® has been tested for resistanceagainst arc discharge of high voltage andlow intensity pursuant to ČSN EN 61 621:1998(IEC 61621:1997).CETRIS ® cement bonded particleboard complieswith its resistance to electrical arc in spaces withhigh voltage wiring (collectors).Justification: The mean and the minimum value ofthe measured times to the conductive path is lowerthan the protection switch off times of distributionnetwork HV and LV wiring. The testing was performed in May 2003 in theElectro-technical Test Institute in Prague – Trójawith the testing apparatus MICAFIL ART 68 withthe following result for CETRIS ® board, thickness10 mm:• Minimum time to conductive path 143 s• Mean time to conductive path 180.25 spage 30
