<strong>Door</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> Job Description:<strong>Land</strong> <strong>Stewardship</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong>Part-time: 21hrs/week, $16/hour plus benefits. Position may become full-time in 2012.<strong>Qualifications</strong>:Applicants should possess a genuine appreciation for our land preservation mission and for the role ofnon-profit organizations; excellent oral and written communication skills; a strong ability to coordinateand work with volunteers; the ability to multi-task; and a sound knowledge of land stewardship issues andconcepts. Willingness to work out of doors under physically challenging conditions; experience withhand/power tools and equipment, or willingness to learn.Responsibilities:The <strong>Stewardship</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> will provide planning assistance and will be responsible for theimplementation of programs related to stewardship activities on <strong>Door</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> preserves.General duties include the following: participate with other <strong>Land</strong> Program staff in planning the landstewardship season; schedule, organize and supervise land stewardship volunteer work parties; procureand maintain supplies and equipment; recruit and train volunteers and maintain land stewardshipvolunteer records; oversee the Preserve Steward Program and Hunting Program; assist in conductingannual Preserve Monitoring Program; implement land management programs related to preserverestoration plans and Managed Forest Law contracts; and other duties as assigned by the <strong>Land</strong><strong>Stewardship</strong> Coordinator. The position will average 3 days per week; however, days and hours may beseasonally variable depending on organizational needs and projects throughout the year.Specific Duties:1. <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Stewardship</strong> volunteer duties:• Work with <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Stewardship</strong> Coordinator to plan and schedule volunteer work parties on<strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> preserves.• Serve as principal staff contact for stewardship volunteers. Maintain volunteer database and e-mail contact list; create and distribute announcements of work parties and other pertinentinformation via e-mail and/or mailings as needed.• Supervise volunteers at <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> work parties. Transport necessary supplies and equipmentto the work site; distribute them to volunteers and collect at end of work party; ensure thatrefreshments and first aid kits are available at work site; determine safe and appropriate rolesfor each volunteer; keep record of participants and tasks accomplished for each work party.• Compile annual summary of land stewardship volunteer hours and accomplishments at end ofstewardship season.2. Preserve Steward Program duties:Oversee the Volunteer Preserve Steward Program, including:• Recruit, train and maintain Preserve Steward Volunteers for specific preserves.• Meet with Preserve Stewards on-site initially and as needed throughout field season.• Act as staff contact for questions from Preserve Stewards during field season.• Arrange for lending and return of <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> supplies and equipment if needed byPreserve Stewards.• Track Preserve Steward volunteer time and other record-keeping as needed; compileannual summary of volunteer hours and accomplishments.


3. Hunting Program duties:Oversee the <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> hunting program, including:• Respond to incoming questions from hunters via mail, telephone and/or e-mail (ongoingthroughout year).• Update website to ensure that all hunting information and rules are current.• Maintain database and mailing list of current/potential hunters.• Process website applications and e-mail responses (ongoing throughout year).• Maintain database of hunter assignments for all preserves.• Post seasonal hunting signs as needed at preserve access points.4. Preserve Monitoring duties:• Assist <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Stewardship</strong> Coordinator in recruiting training, and coordinating PreserveMonitors.• Conduct monitoring visits for preserve properties as needed.• Assist in carrying out follow-up activities identified through annual monitor visits.5. Special Projects/Other Miscellaneous duties:• Inventory, organize, procure, and maintain stewardship vehicles, supplies and equipmentsuch as hand tools, power tools, chemicals, signs, hardware, etc.• Conduct work parties and/or special projects at <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Trust</strong> preserves outside of regularvolunteer day schedule as needed to implement preserve management plans, in-kind grantmatch, partnership projects, for special events, or other circumstances.• Under direction of <strong>Land</strong> Program staff, assist in implementation of Manage Forest Lawcontracts, restoration projects and/or other grant-related projects.• Perform other stewardship-related tasks as assigned by <strong>Land</strong> <strong>Stewardship</strong> Coordinator.Time Allocation (approximate):<strong>Land</strong> <strong>Stewardship</strong> planning and volunteer coordination: 35%Preserve Steward Program: 20%Hunting Program: 15%Preserve Monitoring: 10%Special Projects/Miscellaneous: 20%How to Apply:Reply via mail or email by March 1 st to the contact person listed below.
