Nurse Residency/GN <strong>Frequently</strong> <strong>Asked</strong> <strong>Questions</strong>1. Can I apply to an open RN position on a particular unit?No, all nurses with 6 months or less need to apply to the GN application that is currently open forthat time-frame. If you have interest in a particular unit please indicate your unit and facility ofinterest on your application. The recruiting department will forward qualified applicants to theunit.2. Who do I address my cover letter to?Please address cover letters to ‘Nurse Recruiter’. Please ensure that the cover letter does notcontain the name of another hospital or organization.3. Who do I send my letters of reference to?Please bring them with you upon interview. Address them to ‘Hiring Manager/Director”.4. My completed application says ‘Not under consideration’, does that mean I am not eligible?No, all applications say that once submitted. This process allows us to file the applications withinour system appropriately. You are still under consideration.5. I applied and have not heard from anyone. Who can I contact?Be aware that we receive many New Graduate applications, and they are thoroughly screened.Give your application time to be processed before attempting to contact a Recruiter. If you areidentified as a potential fit for any of our openings you will be contacted by a Recruiter orManager/Director for an interview.6. When is the application deadline for the Nurse Residency?There is no set deadline for applications for any given residency. In general, we recommendapplying no more than 2-3 months ahead of your graduation date to ensure time for processing,interview and hiring processes. Applying further in advance is not advised.7. Do I need to apply to the residency?No, there is no application process for the residency in particular. Please inquire aboutparticipation in the residency upon interview. All New Graduate Nurses within <strong>St</strong>. David’s<strong>HealthCare</strong> are eligible to attend once they have accepted a GN position.8. Do you accept out of state applicants?This is considered on a case by case basis. We have accepted New Graduate Nurses from out ofstate in the past. Be aware that we receive many qualified applicants from within the state. Ifyou are actively in the process of relocating to the area please indicate that upon applying. Visitthe Texas Board of Nurse Examiners website for information on obtaining Texas licensure assoon as possible, as this process can delay your start date if not completed appropriately.


9. What specialties/departments are hiring?This can vary depending on vacancies at the time of application. Specialties that have acceptedNew Graduate Nurses in the past include Med/Surg, Rehab, Neuro, Ortho, Oncology, ED, ICU,IMC, OR, NICU, and L & D.
