Midwife & Doula Friendly<strong>St</strong>. David’s Medical Center welcomesmidwives and doulas to attend the birthof your baby. While we will provide thebest possible care, we want your birthingexperience to be tailored to your needsand desires. We also offer telemetry fetalmonitoring so you are free to walk and evenshower during labor.


LDR RoomWe have 22 private and spacious LaborDelivery & Recovery (LDR) rooms. EveryLDR room is equipped with state-of-the-arttechnology as well as the comforts of home.


Welcoming BabyAfter Vaginal DeliveryAfter you have given birth, and you and yourbaby have spent some time together, ournurses will complete the clinical assessment,foot printing and ID banding of your babyin your room. This allows you and your babyto bond skin-to-skin without interruption.


OB Surgical SuiteAt <strong>St</strong>. David’s Medical Center, surgical suitesare located within the Labor & Deliveryunit. If you have a Cesarean birth, yourbaby’s assessment, foot printing and IDbanding will be completed in the operatingroom in your view.


Welcoming BabyAfter a C-SectionOnce you have spent a few minutes withyour baby, your family and the NICUteam will escort the infant to the newbornnursery.Once you are in the recovery room, yourfamily and baby will join you. Skin-to-skincontact and breastfeeding will be initiatedas soon as possible in the recovery room.


Post-Partum/Gynnecology RoomsOur 63 private rooms have been beautifullyupdated, offering a comfortable space foryour family to stay the night. If you needlarger accommodations you may requestone of our suites for an additional fee.

Distinctive DiningEvery patient may order room service froma menu and have their meal delivered to theroom. This allows for flexibility, with no setmenus or meal times.


BreastfeedingWhile it is always the family’s choice whetheror not to breastfeed, our physicians highlyencourage it.Our expert lactation consultants are hereevery day for our breastfeeding mothers. Thelactation consultants help you develop a planfor breastfeeding while offering assistanceand education. We even offer breastfeedingsupport after you go home.


Mother & Child ConnectionThe Mother & Child Connection is abreastfeeding boutique located within theWomen’s <strong>Services</strong> unit that sells and rentsbreast pumps and supplies that you maywant while breastfeeding.


Newborn Nursery TeamParents are encouraged to keep their babywith them in their room for the entirehospital stay. This is called “rooming in.”Our team of expert registered nurses in theNewborn Nursery will care for your baby inyour room. This gives you the opportunityto get to know your baby with the supportof our team. If your baby requires additionalcare or procedures that cannot happen inyour room, our full-service nursery providesa safe environment to meet those needs.


Specialized CareOur unique “Baby Matters” program offersspecialized services to those infants whomay require neonatal surgery at the time ofbirth. <strong>St</strong>. David’s Medical Center is the onlyhospital in the Austin area where a motherand her newborn requiring surgery can becared for in the same facility.


NICU TeamIf your baby should need a higher level ofcare than the Newborn Nursery, <strong>St</strong>. Maternal & NeonatalTransport TeamOur Maternal and Neonatal TransportTeam provides life-saving care to mothersand babies who need the skill and technologyof our Level III NICU.Our team of certified registered nurses andrespiratory therapists provides 24-houremergency transportation and en-routecare throughout a 100-mile radius to bringexpectant mothers and newborns to ourLevel III NICU.
