This example of extremely filigree casting demonstrates obviously the possibilities of our technology.Energy efficiency that goes that bitfurtherAnyone who relies on high performance valuesalone when manufacturing casting machinesis usually thinking too narrowly. What mattersmost is what is ultimately accomplished witheach kilowatt hour consumed. The inductiongenerators and inductors in our casting andmelting machines are designed with thehighest possible level of effectiveness in mind.Efficient insulation ensures that the inductiongenerated loses as little energy as possible forfast melting of the metal. The thermal insulationaround the inductor and crucible effectivelyreduces heat radiation; the meltingchamber acts like a Faraday cage to preventthe radiation of electromagnetic waves. The infused stainless steel coolant water linesfurther improve the shielding effect. With openmelting machines that cannot use the 'cageeffect', the radiation loss is reduced almost aseffectively through the use of ring-shapedferrites – and at the same time the electrosmogload is drastically reduced.Less energy for coolingEfficient energy use also reduces energyconsumption for water re-cooling in themachine and the potential need for air-conditioningin the foundry. Moreover, a smallerinstalled load is sufficient.Indutherm machines save energy withperipheral devices tooThanks to the flask lift you can use flasks withno flange, offering you two ways to savemoney: flangeless flasks are much cheaperand require less space in your oven. In otherwords: with the same energy consumptionyou can burn ~50% more flasks – or you canwork with a smaller oven. The Induthermconcept for energyefficient meltingHigh level of efficiencyfor generators and inductors+Optimised useof induction power+Effective insulationagainst heat radiation= High melting performancewith reduced powerconsumptionflasks with flangeflasks without flange3

MC 15+ and MC 60 tabletop casting machinesThe MC 15+is designed…• for the very fast anduncomplicatedcasting of singlemodels or small treesin high quality• for casting of everymetal, even steelor platinum1|The MC 60is ideal…• for jewellery casting ingold or silver• for technical small seriescasting in aluminium, copper and other metals2|3|The compact MC series was developed toprovide jewellery designers, goldsmiths, developmentdepartments and dental laboratorieswith a cheap yet highly professional castingmachine. Our most important aims were:extremely short processing time from mouldmanufacturing to completed casting; simple, safe operation; high quality and, above all, reproducible casting results; and lowoperating costs. The overwhelming globalsuccess of the MC series in numerousindustries – including some not originallyenvisaged – emphatically confirms the MCconcept.Ingeniously simple = simply ingeniousHandling the minicasting system is also extremely simple:1| Fill in the material and heat up.2| Take the flask from oven and insert into themachine. The device itself looks after alladditional functions – until we get to the strokeof genius:3| Pouring off takes place using a 90° rotationof the casting unit. After pouring, the MC 15+automatically switches to overpressure in orderto optimise the mould filling even for delicateparts. After pouring, the MC series automaticallyswitch to overpressure inorder to optimise the mould fillingeven for delicate parts.Alternatively it is also possible tokeep the vacuum (example showsMC 15+).With the MC machines, you can easily cast byhand from the crucible to your mould andfeel what you are doing – just as it has beendone for thousands of years. So that thisworks consistently and safely, the entiremelting/casting unit is tilted togetherthrough a 90 degree angle. For perfectbalance and to make do with as few movingparts as possible, almost the whole machinemoves during tilting: being cylindrical indesign, the whole moving section rotates asif in a halfpipe – ingeniously simple andstylishly designed on high-quality rollers. However, unlike manual casting, the processtakes place in an enclosed chamber under avacuum or inert gas atmosphere, to preventair pockets and oxidation. You can check themelting and pouring-off process through thesight glass.8

NEWWhy did we not just make one of the triedand tested machines in the VC range smaller? There are actually machines on the market inwhich the construction principle of largermachines has been miniaturised, and whichtherefore work with a sealing rod system. Weprefer the tilting casting system for thefollowing reasons:• Small crucibles with sealing rods are hard tofill. Generally only granulate or some otherground material can be poured in; thesealing rod gets in the way with largerpieces such as manufacturing residues, sprue etc.• Naturally the pouring-off opening is also verysmall with small crucibles. This makes viscousalloys hard to pour out, leading to the formationof incrustations and consequently leakage. This makes the service lives of expensiveconsumables extremely short. The crucibles inour MC machines are not only cheaper – theycan also be used for a substantially longertime. Pouring off into the mould is extremelysimple.• The number of mechanically moving partsand seals – so all wearing parts – is substantiallysmaller with our tilting principle, reducing your running costs.• The viewing glass and open design enableyou to keep an eye on the melting andcasting process and control it perfectly.MC 15+, the fast all-rounder for anymetal• For individual pieces or multiple smalljewellery parts• Minimum material use for the sprue• Shortest combustion times for the flaskin the oven – approx. 1 hr with a speedinvestment material• With graphite crucible for gold and silver;ceramic crucible for platinum, palladium, steel• Maximum temperature 2,000°C.MC 60, the larger capacity version forgold and silver casting• Largely the same technology as with theMC 15+, but designed for a temperaturerange up to 1,300°C• Hence larger capacity for gold and silvercasting• For flasks up to 80 mm x 120 mm,optionally up to 100 mm x 120 mm.A significant factor for theeconomic efficiency is the lowquantity of metal that must becalculated for button.9

MC 20 V and MC 100 V: program controlledmachines featuring vibration technologyThese machines aredesigned for…• for difficult casts in thejewellery and technicalsectors• for all metals, even steel, palladium and platinumMC 20 V and MC 100 V are designed basedon the same tilting principle as the MCmachines described above. However they aresystematically designed for intricate castingprojects in continuous operation in largefoundries.Vibration technology for excellentcasting qualityThe two MC machines with the “V” suffix areequipped with the Indutherm vibrationsystem. Vibration switched on directly aftercasting is a decisive factor in enhancingmould filling with very filigree parts. Itprevents porosity, ensures a finer grain structureand allows greater more constantdensity. The post-processing requirement ismuch lower. Parts also have measurablyhigher elasticity and this increases the scopefor further processing significantly.Vibration technology is a compelling alternativeto the frequently used and relatively delicatecentrifugal systems, especially whencasting platinum or palladium. You can find more information on page 18/19.Full text LCD display for fine adjustmentand serial programmingTemperatures up to 2000°C are preciselymeasured by an optical pyrometer.Place the flask in positionThe new operating system features individualsetting of parameters to achieve maximumperformance from every pattern mould andevery alloy. Thanks to the transparent layoutof the menu structure and full text display, allsettings are quick and easy to program. Ofcourse all process parameters can be savedfor repeated castings.10

tabletop castingMC 20 V or MC 100 V? It’s only aquestion of the required capacity ...Casting quality, maximum temperature, operationand equipment levels are in fact identical.Even the space requirements differ only inminor points – both machines are designedas bench-top models. Due to the greaterheight we recommend a height-adjustablebench or a standalone version with a floorcupboard. The decisive differences are thecapacity of the crucible volume and flask size. The MC 20 V is suited for up to 100 g Au 18ctor 200 g Pt, the MC 100 V for up to 200 g Au18 ct or 500 g Pt. The MC 100 V also offersvery short process times. The larger flasks onthe MC 100 V require a slightly longer firingtime in the furnace. As always, we offer you competent consultingto achieve the best solution for you.Main benefits• Very simple and safe to operate, shorttraining periods• Excellent price-performance ratio• Induction generator reaches meltingtemperature rapidly• Thorough melt mixing due to low-frequencyinduction tuning• Melting under a vacuum or inert gas(degassing the melt prevents oxidation)• Excellent mould filling at pressures up to3 bar (vacuum casting also available)• Low material consumptionPdPtThe MC 100 V as standaloneversion. The floor base offersenough space to accommodateaccessories, for examplethe vacuum pump.11

The VC seriesVacuum Pressure Casting MachinesA thoroughly thought-through conceptwith the finest details......forms the basis of the technological advancesmade in our VC machines guaranteeing opti -mal casting results whatever class of machineyou opt for.A few examples of the additional featuresoffered by Indutherm machines:Automatic vacuum in the melting andflask chambers……provides the de-gasing of the alloy andavoids undesired oxidation during melting (alow oxygen content is particulary importantwhen casting silver or red gold). Vacuum inthe flask chamber during casting improvesthe form filling when casting filigree partsand avoids air inclusions.Melting by induction technology:The crucible with the material is locatedin the core of the induction coil. By generatinga strong alternating magneticfield, the result is a strong alternatingcurrent in the graphite crucible and inthe metal. This leads to fast heating upand thorough mixing of the material.Vacuum CastingThe special “oxidation-reducedcasting“ system...…eliminates the danger of oxidation while theflask is cooling down. The Turbo Pressure function……optimises the casting of very small andfiligree objects. For the production ofjewellery it guarantees perfect results whencasting with stones. Turbo Pressure allows aprecisely defined pressure to be achievedrapidly. For all program-controlled VC models, depending on the selected program the TurboPressure will start automatically exactly at therequired time.18

Highest levels of safety for certifiedproductionThe digital or program control of our machinesand the integrated data printer (standardequipment for VC 650 V, VC 1000 V, VC 3000 V)ensure a high level of safety and the possibi -lity of precise process documentation (importantfor ISO certified casting processes).Until recently flasks with incorrect or differenttemperatures were a safety risk. Duringcasting of very small or delicate parts thetemperature of the flask is of utmostimportance. The measurement of the flasktemperature (standard for machines fromVC 500 D onwards) is an important featurewith regards to safety. The temperature of theflask can be monitored to within one degree.Overlapping castingAll Indutherm machines have separate locksystems for the melting chamber and flaskchamber. This allows time to be saved by"overlapping" casting: while the flask remainsin the flask chamber for several minutes afterthe casting, you may fill in and heat up thenext charge.Vibration System• Vibration during casting generallyimproves material flow and mouldfilling.• Castings exhibit a higher and moreconsistent density• Porosity is substantially reduced.• Risk of hot cracks is reduced.• 50% smaller grain size• Castings have greater stress and elasticityproperties, making them easier to processfurther. In practice this means: higher and moreconsistent quality, less waste, less postprocessing, better deformability.A customer in USA has discovered that byusing Indutherm vibration technology thetotal production time including postprocessinghas been reduced by 25%(compared with the older VC 600).▲ porositywithoutvibrationRmwith VRmwithout VRp 0,2with VRp 0,2without V▲ porosity with vibrationgrain structuregrain structurewithout vibration with vibration*Au 18 ct: 750 Au,128 Ag, 122 Cuelongation limit ~12% bettertensile strength ~25% bettertensilestrengthN/mm 20,2%dischargeelongation= with vibration= without vibration19

The semi-automatic VC versionsThese machines aredesigned for:• casting of jewellery andother filigree parts• VC 200 - 400:for smaller charges• VC 500: a semi-automaticmachine for frequentoperations.Resistor heated casting machinesVC 200 / VC 300The resistor-heated vacuum casting machineVC 200 and the vacuum pressure castingmachine VC 300 are very low priced castingmachines for smaller productions.Nevertheless these machines offer a convincingcasting quality. Both machines reach amaximum temperature of 1,200°C.Stone-in-place castings possible with allVC-series machinesInduction heated casting machinesVC 400The ideal machine for smaller companiesproducing moderate quantities but needingconsiderably more capacity than that offeredby the MC machines. Often, experiencedcasters are not particularly interested in automatedfunctions or program control, and theycan achieve the same quality with the VC 400machine as with more advanced ones. Itsinduction generator guarantees fast heat-upand thorough mixing of the molten metal byinductive bath movement.VC 500For larger production quantities withcontinuous casting operation, greater performance(shorter casting times) with evenlarger crucibles and flask capacities (flasks upto 160 mm ø/400 mm H) is important. Thehigh maximum temperature of 1,600°Cextends the possible range of alloys. Temperaturemeasurements in both the crucible andthe flask mean the best possible repeataccuracy in the process. Often a certain shape or size is required, such as ingots orpellets. Moreover, the metals and alloys themselves require different handling:alloys containing copper, for example, should be molten in avacuum or inert gas atmosphere as they tend towards strong oxideformation. For other metals or alloys, in turn, open plants are recommendedas fumes have to be drawn off, for example. The overview shown on the left page is intended to give you an insightinto the versatile possibilities of our program. The ideal solutionfor your application is best determined by discussion or by trialcasts. Just ask us!TF 4 000 Ingot Casting MachineThe ingot moulds are located in a movable slide which locks intoplace precisely at the casting point, thus ensuring safe filling ofthe individual moulds.VC 400 Pellet Casting MachineThis machine has been developed for casting alloys or productionleftovers into pellets with a pre-defined weight or size.A hydraulic ejector allows the pellets to be collected easily. The machine is based on the VC 400 model.VC 400 B Bar Casting MachineThis machine is especially suitable for melting and casting definedquantities of metal such as one kilogram ingots. The Continuous Casting Machines – the onlyones with vacuum and/or quattro driveThese machinesare designed…• for fast and flexibleproduction of semifinishedmaterial• for use in everymetalworkingindustry• as multiple useinstrumentsespecially for theproduction of rings34More flexibility, lower costsIndutherm continuous casting machines helpyou to save production costs. With only one machine, you can produce yourown alloys or semi-finished products in differentshapes and sizes in the shortest time, forexample:• wires or bars in every diameter you need, upto ø 40 mm (CC 3000)• sheets and strips, e.g. ring production, forstamping and pressing• tubes, perfect as basic material for cutting insections for wedding ring production• granulatesAs the desired moulds and alloys can beproduced within minutes, you can reduce yourinvestment for material in storage. Yourprocesses will get faster, more flexible and moreefficient. The main advantages of the InduthermCC-machines:• short change-over times for various castingsizes• a lot of additional equipment available• e.g. diffusion bonding set (“sintering”) andgranulation tank• induction generators with low frequencytuning for thorough mixing of the metal• automated inert gas• high metal quality, free of porosityOptional quattro driveThe optionaldrawing unit withfour instead of twomotor driven feedrolls produce verysmooth tubes andsheeting withoutthe otherwiseunavoidable marksof transportation(for CC 1000 and CC 3000).All CC-machines also available as VCCversionswith vacuum function (pat. pend.)With the VCC-machines, melting can take placeunder a vacuum or inert gas. This is ideal foralloys containing copper such as red gold or forsilver as these materials tend to oxidise easily.Degasification under a vacuum results in asubstantially improved – because of the absenceof oxidation – semi-finished product.performancepower max. / electrical connectionmaximum temperaturecapacitycrucible volumewire production up totube production up tosheet productionhandling+control16 programs for melting and die temp.,drawing lengths, stoptime, reverse drawinert gas overpressurevacuumneutral inert gas atmospherequality managementRS 232, diagnostic systemdata printerGSM modem for remote serviceaccessoriesQuattro-drawing unitsintering kitgranulation tankbending-unitsimultaneous casting of several wirescoiling equipment

An effective solution for wedding ring productionThese machines aredesigned…• for the production ofmulti-colour ringsin accordance with thediffusion bonding process• for solid bondingof every kind of metal38Sintering is the optimum process for producingmulti-coloured rings, mostly sold aswedding rings. Metals are processed underpressure and at temperatures below the solidificationpoint. The pressure is generatedpneumatically and not mechanically via athreaded spindle. This means that there is norisk of graphite parts breaking as a result ofheat expansion. The fusion between layershas the same durability as the metal itself.Pre-manufactured rings can be easily resized(7 sizes and more).Benefits of the Indutherm sinteringprocess:• With the sintering unit processes can takeplace under a vacuum, which is importantfor alloys with a manganese component• Processes can take place under inert gas• Straightforward installation/removal of therings• Approximate duration of process: 5 minutes• Depending on the thickness of the rings, upto 6 rings can be processed simultaneouslyIndutherm offers different methods ofsintering:The special sintering machines (SU series) orthe sintering kit for installation into existingcasting or continuous casting machines.Sintering Machine SU 300With the SU 300, the temperature andpressure are controlled manually. Exceptionalresults can be produced using this machineafter just a brief introductory period.Sintering Machine SU 450The new SU 450 is equipped with a highlysensitive sensor system, which permanentlycontrols the reduction of the rings andprovides real-time information about thereduction values on the display. The temperaturemay be regulated very precisely close tothe solidus temperature, right until the reductionbegins. As soon as the pre-defined reduction valuehas been reached, the process stops automaticallythus preventing too much deformation(depending on the composition and alloy thepre-defined reduction value varies between0.1 mm and 0.3 mm). The “Sensor-Control-System” considerably reduces the time andmaterial required for production for twomajor reasons: firstly because the processparameters can be defined quickly andwithout making lots of test rings; andsecondly because the quality of the sinteringprocess is constantly very high. Therefore thefinishing effort is reduced, as well as the lossof material, which occurs during subsequentdiamond dressing or turning.Benefits of the SU 450:• program control for 100 different processcycles• sintering protocol after every cycle• LCD display• sensor control system for permanentprocess control and real-time display of thereduction• no long-winded preliminary tests• less finishing effort and loss of metalThe Sintering KitThe sintering kit can be installed into existingVC 200 to VC 650 V type casting machinesand in all continuous casting machines. Thekit is ideal for the occasional diffusionbonding job and for smaller seriesproduction. Only a few minutes are neededto install/remove the sintering kit.The sintering kit can be used for occasionaldiffusion bonding and for small seriesproduction. For larger production quantitieswe recommend our sintering machinesSU 300 and SU 450.
