TABLELANDS (Meeting: 2nd Sunday each month 1030 hours. Venue: Rocky Creek War Memorial Park <strong>Nasho</strong> Shelter.)Nine members and supporters travelled by caravan, plane or coach to attend the dedication of the NationalServicemen’s Memorial at the AWM Canberra on 8September. The memorial is elegant in its simplicity and tellsa permanent story of sacrifice and hope in its design. MrsBetty Kingston and Isabella Doherty laid the relative’swreath containing 212 poppies. Many social activities wereattended including the Great Hall Reception at ParliamentHouse, dinner / dance at EPIC and visits to many touristattractions. The highlight of these is the Australian WarMemorial, confirming why it is one of the great museums ofthe world. Two members Boyd McQueen and John Hardyattended the Branch Delegate’s meeting on 25 September atthe Wacol Heritage Precinct. John made a presentation of a2010 special edition Vietnam Anzac biscuit tin to Wacol Manager Ivan Davis and encouraged other <strong>Nasho</strong>s todonate memorabilia to the Wacol museum. Members are pleased to welcome home Don Locarnini of Wondeclaafter an extended stay at the Cairns Base Hospital with a medical condition. Thanks to John Tatters and BruceReedman for their welfare support. At the recent FNQ Walkamin Country Music Festival, Terry Edmondsonand John Hardy took the opportunity to present <strong>Nasho</strong> Chad Morgan a 100th anniversary copy of <strong>Nasho</strong> News.Chad said that he was called up for the third intake, 1952 and completed his National Service in the RAAF atAmberley.TOOWOOMBA (Meeting: 2nd Tuesday Odd months 1900 hours. Venue: Irish Club Hotel)Barry Vicary Memorial Trophy Our Branch was pleased to accept the above award at the recent DelegatesMeeting held at Wacol. Much hard work was put in by ourAssistant Secretary and our Welfare Officer. Congratulations toyou both. We also thank our local Federal Member for Groom, IanMacFarlane who mentioned medal entitlements for <strong>Nasho</strong>s in hisregular newsletter. There were large numbers of enquiries. Annual<strong>Nasho</strong> Race Meeting Numbers at our twilight gathering were downthis year, but the weather stayed fine and cool and all present hada pleasant afternoon. The food was good, and there were somevery close finishes to the races. One of our members picked thetrifecta in the last race, and went home happy. We were pleased towelcome State President Bill and wife Lois for the afternoon.Thanks to all who assisted with the organising and running of thisevent. Christmas Get-together This year’s Christmas Party will be held at South Toowoomba Bowls Club,in Hume St on Saturday 27th November. Come at 11:30am for a 12:00(noon) meal and festivities. Cost is$25 / head. Other branches welcome.TOWNSVILLE (Meeting: 2nd Wednesday each month 1930 hours. Venue: Townsville RSL.)Twenty seven members and wives travelled to Canberra for the Dedication of the National Service Memorialon Wednesday, 8th September. What a great turnout it was. Perfect weather on the day. some getting a littlesunburnt. Most of our members attended the Parliamentary Reception at Parliament House and had theopportunity to speak with Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott and high ranking military officers during the evening.Also present was Keith Payne VC originally from Ingham. 12 Members travelled by train to Caboolture wherewe were met by Members of the Caboolture Branch for our 2 night stay prior to joining our Tour on Sunday,5th September. On the night of our arrival, President Bill Newton arranged for us to visit a Strawberry Farmto witness the processing for the Melbourne Markets, very interesting, then on to the Wamuran Sporting Clubfor an excellent dinner.
