RHI TARIFFS FORnon-domestic INSTALLATIONSThe RHI is a Government scheme, encouraging the installation and use of renewable heating. There are two phases as follows:PHASE 1Introduced in July 2011, biomass projects in the non-domestic sector, installed since July 2009, are eligible forquarterly RHI payments. Currently, end users could receive payments of up to 8.3p per kWhr for the energy theyproduce from their pellet boiler, over a 20-year period. This figure will vary depending on the type of systeminstalled, but it is index linked, so will increase with inflation. Examples of non-domestic installations include:* Where one boiler serves more than one dwelling e.g. through district heating systems* Public buildings such as schools, community centres or public libraries* Pubs, hotels, the leisure sector and any business premises small or large industrial applicationsTariff rates are as follows:Tariff name Technology Size Tariff Rate (p/kWh)Small biomass Biomass Up to 199 kWth Tier 1: 8.3 / Tier 2: 2.1Medium biomass Biomass 200 kWth - 999 kWth Tier 1: 5.1 / Tier 2: 2.1Large biomass Biomass 1000 kWth and above 1PHASE 2RHI tariffs will also be available for domestic properties in the near future. These again will cover installationssince July 2009. In the mean time, from May 2012 until April 2013, domestic users installing an MCS approvedwood pellet boiler can apply for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP), which is a £950 grant towardsthe cost of the purchasing the product and installation.Typical 36kW condensing oil-fired boiler (90% efficiency)Current fuel usage = 3000 litres per annum @ 61p/litreAnnual running cost = £1830 (6.2p/kWh)Typical 36kW wood pellet boiler (85% efficiency)Equivalent fuel usage = 7 tonnes per annum @ £200/tonAnnual running cost = £1330 (4.3p/kwh)Annual RHI non-domestic payment = £2196Index linked for 20 years = £43,917 return (approx.)EXAMPLERepresenting free fuel and an annual profit of £866Note: if the oil-fired boiler is non-condensing and less efficient, or the wood pellet boiler ishigher in efficiency (e.g. the Grant Spira can be 97%) the benefit would be greater. These figures do not take into account rises in fuel costs.

CASE STUDYS4E SMARTPOD HOUSESGRANT SPIRA CONDENSINGWOOD PELLET BOILER ATCARE HOMEEveryone’s a winner at Nottingham City Council’s, Dovetail HouseCare Home in Mansfield following the installation of a 72kW GrantSpira Wood Pellet Boiler housed within a S4E SmartPod.Not only will residents enjoy a consistently warm environment, but throughthe Governments’ Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme a total incomein excess of £500,000 (after paying for fuel) over a 20 year period will beachieved. Situated in the garden at Dovetail House the containerised S4ESmartPod, with a pine tongue and groove clad exterior, provides a completeBiomass boiler house incorporating pumps, pipe work, fuel stores, electricsand controls. Replacing the existing storage heaters, heating and hot waterwill be provided for the 16 ensuite single rooms and communal areas via acomplete wet system.Designed by MCS Approved Smart4Energy a key feature of thiscontainerised S4E SmartPod system is that it allows for the accumulation ofheat. By incorporating a 1,500 litre accumulation tank into the system, up toa third more output can be achieved as the tank stores the energy createdin the pod and then pushes it into the building as required. In the case ofDovetail House this equates to over 100kW of heat produced from a 72kWSpira Wood Pellet Boiler. The combination of the SmartPod technology andthe functionality of the Grant Spira Wood Pellet Boiler means that the correctsize boiler to achieve the correct output for the building is always installed.Available in a range of attractive cladding finishes, the S4E SmartPod isconstructed off-site and installed with the minimum of disruption.Grant UK has a nationwide sales team on hand to assist with any biomassprojects you are involved with. We can even recommend Grant trainedMCS Approved installers to carry out the job. Householders will be able to apply for a £2500 voucher for their Biomass installation, which will be issued if the application is successful. After the qualifying technology installation is complete, the voucher canbe exchanged for grant money.GRANT ENGINEERING (UK) LTDHOPTON HOUSE, HOPTON INDUSTRIAL ESTATE,DEVIZES, WILTSHIRE, SN10 2EUT: 01380 736920 F: 01380 736991E: SALES@GRANTUK.COM W: WWW.GRANTUK.COMThis leaflet is accurate at the time of printing but as Grant UK has a policy of continualimprovement it may be superseded.
