Wide property spectrumThe TPU structure can be varied by using building blocks of different chemistries and/or by altering the ratio between thehard and soft segments. As a result, physical and mechanical properties such as hardness, strength, rigidity, elongation andlow-temperature flexibility can be adjusted over a broad range. Elastollan TPU grades are available with hardnesses from 35Shore A to 74 Shore D.20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 95 50 70 90 110 120 130 140 150Shore A Durometer45 55 65 75 85Rockwell - R HardnessShore D DurometerMost Elastollan TPU grades are based on aromatic chemistries which endows resins with easy processibility and propertymatrices that cater to the majority of applications. Aliphatic isocyanates are used in specialty grades providing outstandingcolor stability, transparency, and weatherability. A distinction is drawn between polyether and polyester polyurethane as afunction of the polyols employed. In conjunction with polyester-polyols, TPU with high toughness, good oil and solventresistance, weatherability, abrasion resistance and temperature resistance are obtained. Polyether-polyol-based TPU exhibitexcellent hydrolytic stability, resistance to weak acids & bases, and fungus & microbial resistance.Polyester-based TPU Abrasion resistance Excellent mechanical properties High-temperature resistance Oil/solvent resistance Weather (UV) resistance Plasticizer-free, super-soft gradesavailablePolyether-based TPU Excellent hydrolytic stability Low-temperature flexibility Microbial and fungus resistance Resistance to weak acids and bases Flame retardant grades availableAliphatic TPU Color and UV stability High clarity Excellent surface reproducibility Pleasant soft touch feelFor more information on BASF Aerospace Materials:aerospace.materials@basf.comwww.aerospace.basf.com2

Aerospace applicationsElastollan TPU is used in various aircraft interior applications. A variety of gradeswith hardnesses ranging from 70 Shore A to 54 Shore D are particularly suitableon account of their mechanical and physical properties. Flame retardance can beadjusted to comply with the different requirements in 14 CFR, part 25. The mostnotable aerospace applications include protective TV housings, armrest surfaces, innovative light-weight seat cushions, aircraft wire & cable jacketing, interlayermaterial for window glazings, MSA masks and puncture resistant life vests.POLYETHER-BASED ELASTOLLAN GRADES CHARACTERISTICS APPLICATIONS1175 A W1185 A WContain non-phthalate plasticizer, excellent fire behavior1185 A U UV stabilized MSA masks1185 A F0011177 A FHF1185 A FHF1190 A FHF1191 A FHF1154 D FHF1185 A HFFRLP 9276C Series HPMContains halogenated flame retardant, highest LOIContain halogen free flame retardant, excellent fire behavior, low smokedensitiesContains halogen free flame retardant, highest LOI, improved low smokedensity complementing the FHF lineContains halogen free flame retardant, high LOINon plasticized soft grades, hightemperature performanceInjection molding, extrusion, TV housing/Frame, crew restmattresses, seat cushionsInjection molding, extrusion, arm rest surfacesExtrusion, cable jacketing, film, sheet, hose/hose jacketing, profilesExtrusion, wire & cable jacketing, film, sheet, profiles, armrest surfaces, crew rest mattresses, seat cushionsExtrusion, higher hardness complement to 1185 A FHF,bunched cablesInjection molding, extrusion, high hardnessInjection molding, extrusion, wire & cable jacketing, film, sheet, profiles, arm rest surfacesBunched cablesInjection molding, extrusion, soft touch overmoldingAliphatic TPU Color stable, transparent Injection molding, film extrusionFor more information on BASF Aerospace Materials:aerospace.materials@basf.comwww.aerospace.basf.com3

Physical and mechanical propertiesThe product range of Elastollan TPU used in aerospace applications ispredominantly polyether-based grades, all featuring inherent microbial &fungal resistance, excellent hydrolytic stability, and low temperature flexibility. The service temperature range spans from -54 to 125 o C (-65 to 260 o F).All properties listed are bulk properties. ProcessingConverters receive Elastollan TPU in the form of pellets which can be processedthrough typical melt-processing manufacturing methods such as injection moldingor extrusion. Extrusion processes include film & sheet, hose & tube, wire & cable, and belts & profiles.Flame retardance and regulatory complianceBASF is the technology leader in the field of flame retardant TPU. Different FRadditive packages based on proprietary halogenated and non-halogenated flameretardants are available providing the FR TPU formulations with excellent firebehavior, low smoke densities, low smoke toxicities and high limiting oxygen index(LOI) values. Accordingly, the FST properties of parts made from Elastollan TPU canbe tailored to meet the specific requirements set forth in 14 CFR, part 25, dependingon the target application. For more information on BASF Aerospace Materials:aerospace.materials@basf.comwww.aerospace.basf.com5
