Kerobit ® TP 26 and TP 26 P
Antioxidants for Jet Fuel
Oxidation of fuels leads to darkening and thickening as
chemical species are reacting, forming insoluble sludge or
soot particles. Organic acids are produced which are
extremely corrosive. Further oxidation leads to the buildup of
polymeric material which causes gum deposits on pistons,
control valves, injectors and other engineering parts.
Kerobit TP 26 and Kerobit TP 26 P are
antioxidants for jet fuels or solutions of
antioxidants in kerosene, respectively.
They prevent autoxidation and gum
formation and improve storage stability.
Usage guidelines
Kerobit TP 26 and Kerobit TP 26 P antioxidants are based on
sterically-hindered phenols. Unstabilized products from
crackers and cokers are particularly prone to oxidation, as are
hydrocarbons whose natural antioxidant content has been
reduced by deep hydrogenation. Therefore, the Kerobit TP 26
inhibitors are added at an early stage in the refining process in
order to take full advantage of their antioxidant action.
The injection rate shall not be less than 17 mg/l nor exceed 24
mg/l (1.4·10 -4 to 2.0·10 -4 lbs/gal) for Kerobit TP 26 antioxidants
and shall not be less than 23 mg/l nor exceed 32 mg/l
(1.9·10 -4 to 2.7·10 -4 lbs/gal) for Kerobit TP 26 P antioxidants.
The efficiency is evaluated by determination of the potential
gum according to ASTM D 873 (oxidation stability and
potential gum of jet fuel).
Kerobit TP 26 antioxidant grades meet the requirements of
various MIL, DEF, and DERD specifications. Detailed
information is available upon request.
