ResultsVolunteer effortOf the 242 people trained during the NHDS, approximately 60 went on to collect andsubmit data following the NHDS protocol. An additional 35 volunteers who had not attended aworkshop also made significant contributions (see also Special Projects, above), and incidentalrecords were obtained from roughly 50 observers. Although not all volunteers submitted recordsof their hours and miles for the project, over 6400 hours and 27,000 miles were contributedtowards the NHDS during 2007-2011 (Appendix D). Using rates of $20.93/hour and $0.49/mile,this volunteer contribution was worth a minimum of $148,000 as in-kind match. Note that hoursand miles were not accurately recorded in 2007, so the actual number is certainly significantlyhigher. In total, 18,748 odonata records (18,248 after vouchering) were submitted fromapproximately 1200 sites in 221 towns across New Hampshire (Fig. 1, Appendix D). Of thesesites, approximately 130 received at least three visits spaced according to the protocol, althoughnot all such visits were thorough surveys. Visits occurred between mid-April and earlyDecember, with over 50% during July and August (Fig 2.)Figure 1. Distribution of sitessurveyed during the NHDS.“Moderately surveyed” sites includethose that were well-surveyed in onlytwo of the three time periodsrecommended by the NHDS protocol.5
