North Coast ICTN Newsletter March - May 2013„Get Ready‟ The Tweed Hospital Pilot ProgramThe ‘Get Ready!’ multidisciplinarytraining pilotcommenced in The TweedHospital in May. The threeTweed Project facilitatorsJaymie Hall (Social Work),Michael Mifsud (Nursing) andMichael Noonan (Medical)attended the HETI trainingsession held in Sydney in March2013.There were 26 studentsrepresenting medical, nursing,OT, social work andphysiotherapy participating inthe pilot program.Michael“Lifeguard” Mifsudacts out a scenarioin the simulationtrainingThe ‘Get Ready Program is adedicated inter-professionaltransition training program forstudents during their last year ofpre-graduate study.A component of the programincludes scenario-based trainingin simulated environments for the management of common medical emergencies.This program provided the students with practical opportunities to demonstrateand enhance communication skills when working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals. North Coast ICTN Newsletter March - May 2013NCICTN – Clinical Placements ProjectsHealthy Kyogle Student Service Learning ModelProject Lead: University Centre Rural Health North Coast (UCRHNC)The project will incorporate student led clinical and health promotion services to provideboth an enhancement of health services to the Kyogle community and create newplacements through student participation in the clinic. The clinic will be established incollaboration with Southern Cross University and NNSWLHD and will initially includeoccupational therapy, exercise physiology, speech pathology, podiatry and pedorthics.Other disciplines will be included as appropriate.Final Projectreports will befeatured in thenext NewsletterThe Tweed Healthy SchoolsProject Lead: The T5 Tweed School GroupThis project seeks to establish an interdisciplinary student health team model that will beprogressively implemented into the T5 Group of Schools, located in the South TweedRegion of NSW. This is a collaborative project involving Bond, Griffith and Southern CrossUniversities. The pilot will include: Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology,Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology.NCICTN – Clinical Supervision ProjectsCustomising Cert 4 Training and Assessment for Clinical SupervisorsProject Lead: North Coast TAFEThe project will provide a pathway for clinicians to gain both skill and recognition for theirclinical supervision. The project offers three learning options:Participating in a supervision skills training workshop.Becoming a workshop Facilitator “Teaching on the Run”.Gaining a nationally recognised Certificate of Attainment in 2 units from the Cert. 4Training and Assessment qualificationThis is a collaborative project UCRHNC, University of New England and University ofNewcastle.Enabling Clinical Supervisory SkillsProject Lead: Griffith UniversityThe project will develop and evaluate learning packages for the continuing education ofclinical supervisors who are supervising entry-level allied health students in physiotherapy,occupational therapy, speech pathology and exercise physiology. The overall aim will be todevelop inter-disciplinary training in a collaborative manner across four allied healthprofessions.
