9 1ST ARGYLLSHIRE HIGHLANDERS. 5On the 9th of July the king was pleasedto 1701.approve of the list of officers, and the regimentwas numbered 98.In November the regiment was at Chippenham,and on the 19th of January, 1795, theyreceived 1795.orders to hold themselves in readiness to proceedon foreign service at the shortest notice.On the 28th of January they moved to Poole,arriving on the 2nd and 3rd of February, andproceeded to Fareham on the 20th and 21st,arriving at GosportApril.On theon the 22nd and 23rd of5th of May they were ordered to jointhe expedition under Major-General AluredClarke to the Cape of Good Hope, the object ofwhich was to assist the force of some 4000men which had been sent in a fleet, undercommand of Admiral Elphinstone, to take possessionof the Cape Colony.
