The terms were fixed at oneshilling per month.In the beginning of 1799, a strong attempt wasmade by a number of the soldiers in the garrisonat Cape Town to organize a mutiny, their purposebeing to destroy the principal officers, andto establish themselves in the colony. Not onlydid the 91st not take any partin this diabolicalregimentwho were requested bythe mutineersattempt, but the papers containing the names ofthe mutineers and their plans were discoveredand seized by the aid of Private Malcolm Mc-Culloch and others, the first soldiers of theto enter into the conspiracy. Lieut.-ColonelCraufurd, in a regimental order dated 7th ofAugust, speciallycommended the conduct ofMcCulloch, and declared that he considered himselffortunate in being the commander of such aregiment.
