Dr. Somaya EL-Saadani, is a Ph.D. holder <strong>in</strong> demography s<strong>in</strong>ce 1993. Dr. Somaya El-Saadani is<br />

Associate Research <strong>Prof</strong>essor at the Social Research Center (SRC) and Associate <strong>Prof</strong>essor of<br />

Demography at the Department of Demography and Biostatistics, Institute of Statistical Studies and<br />

Research, <strong>Cairo</strong> <strong>University</strong> s<strong>in</strong>ce 2004. She was head of the Department of Demography and<br />

Biostatistics, Institute of Statistical Studies and Research, <strong>Cairo</strong> <strong>University</strong>, <strong>in</strong> 2008-2009.<br />

She is the Coord<strong>in</strong>ator of the academic course “Monitor<strong>in</strong>g and Evaluation Research with<br />

Applications on Poverty Alleviation Program” Provided by Social Research Center and the School<br />

of Public Policy and Adm<strong>in</strong>istration. Dr. El Saadani is a Co-Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal Investigator of Health Equity<br />

and Integrated Health and Poverty Alleviation Policies project. She is responsible for evaluat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the potential impact of implement<strong>in</strong>g different models of the <strong>in</strong>tegrated social policy approach on<br />

reproductive health. She developed target<strong>in</strong>g criteria to recruit people liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> extreme poverty<br />

<strong>in</strong> a pilot Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program <strong>in</strong> a slum area (E<strong>in</strong> elsira) <strong>in</strong> <strong>Cairo</strong>.<br />

Be<strong>in</strong>g an associate professor of demography and biostatistics at the Institute of Statistical Studies<br />

and Research (ISSR) <strong>in</strong> <strong>Cairo</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Dr. El Saadani has extensive teach<strong>in</strong>g background for<br />

students enrolled <strong>in</strong> Diploma, Master and Doctoral degrees.<br />

Her research <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong>cludes evaluation research with application on poverty alleviation<br />

programs, health, morbidity, and mortality, reproductive health, social demography, <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />

migration and urbanization and poverty and <strong>in</strong>ternational migration.<br />

She is statistical consultant for advanced statistical analysis for “<strong>The</strong> Stand<strong>in</strong>g Project on Drug<br />

Abuse <strong>in</strong> Egypt”, <strong>The</strong> National Center for Social and Crim<strong>in</strong>ological Research, Egypt and member<br />

of the board of consultants for <strong>The</strong> National Review of Drug Abuse and Addiction issued by <strong>The</strong><br />

National Center for Social and Crim<strong>in</strong>ological Research <strong>in</strong> collaboration with the National Council<br />

for Address<strong>in</strong>g Drug Combat and Addiction, Egypt.<br />

Recently, she has presented "Challenges Fac<strong>in</strong>g Health Insurance Regime and Health Equity <strong>in</strong><br />

Egypt" <strong>in</strong> front of the IUSSP International Sem<strong>in</strong>ar on "Social and Health Policies for Equity:<br />

Approaches and Strategies" and her forthcom<strong>in</strong>g publication is an attempt to determ<strong>in</strong>e if the<br />

health <strong>in</strong>surance system reduces health <strong>in</strong>equality <strong>in</strong> Egypt?"<br />
