How to Get There<br />

Tai Shek Mo is a hill located to the northwest of Ho Sheung Heung, Lo Wu, in the<br />

northern New Territories. The highest peak in the area is only 183 m high. Tai Shek<br />

Mo can be accessed from several directions. By private car, turn onto Ho Sheung<br />

Heung Road from Chau Tau, Castle Peak Road, and then drive northwards along the<br />

Ho Sheung Heung Road until an uphill road is encountered (point R1 on the Route<br />

Map). The summit of the Tai Shek Mo can be reached by driving northwestwards<br />

along this road. Alternatively, take Green Mini Bus Route no. 51K from Sheung Shui<br />

KCR Station, and then alight from the mini bus at Ho Sheung Heung Road. Walk<br />

northwards along the Ho Sheung Heung Road until a walking trail appears just before<br />

the Ho Sheung Heung Pai Fung Road. (point R2 on the Route Map). Walk northward<br />

along the trail to the peak of Tai Shek Mo. Please note that the area north of the peak<br />

is within the boundary of the Closed Frontier Area, so do not enter without<br />

permission.<br />

The hills between Lo Wu, Tai Shek Mo and Pak Shek Au to Lok Ma Chau in the<br />

northern New Territories are underlain by rocks of the Carboniferous Lok Ma Chau<br />

Formation. The Tai Shek Mo Member, which forms the upper part of the Formation,<br />

comprises mainly metasandstones intercalated with metaconglomerate and phyllite.<br />

These rock types form the hill of Tai Shek Mo. The Mai Po Member, which forms the<br />

lower part of the Lok Ma Chau Formation, comprises mainly metasiltstone, phyllite<br />

intercalated with metasandstone, and graphite. These rocks are exposed only at the<br />

foot of Tai Shek Mo. The outcrop of the Lok Ma Chau Formation in <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> is<br />

bounded to the north by the Shenzhen River. To the south, the Formation is in abrupt<br />
