Students in fourth and fifth grade at Skippack Elementary<strong>School</strong> recently were able to experiencesnowshoeing as part of their physical educationclass. They are becoming familiar with snowshoeingequipment and care and maintenance of theequipment. The students were also introduced toactivities that will develop and enhance physicalfitness, creativity, cooperative learning, and recreationalpursuits. The students are developing arespect for the challenge and sense of adventureassociated with outdoor education.Four fifth‐grade students at South Elementary<strong>School</strong> were honored as “Outstanding Citizens”for the second trimester. Mrs. Mason, from theCollegeville Community Club, presented themwith an award and a gift certificate. Students honoredwere Catherine McFadden, Michael Fajardo,and Michael DiTullio. Absent from the photo wasBrittany Donigan.Competitive Chess!The annual <strong>Perkiomen</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> High <strong>School</strong> Chess Club tournament is engaged! The 38 members of theclub range in ability from newbies who are just learning the game to some very experienced playerswith very remarkable skills. Girls and guys participate and compete against one another. The clubchallenges teachers to an afternoon of friendly competition every year. This time, the teachers werenot beaten as soundly as they were last year. Mr. Rudolph says everyone has a good time and theclub is growing by word of mouth from past members.
