(English for Speakers <strong>of</strong> Other Languages) – <strong>CCT</strong>118<br />
Course Aud<strong>ie</strong>nce<br />
Any non-native English Language speaker, can<br />
improve their English Language skills in General or<br />
Intensive stud<strong>ie</strong>s <strong>of</strong> English through the internationally<br />
recognised framework <strong>of</strong> City & Guilds English Language<br />
programmes.<br />
Course Overv<strong>ie</strong>w<br />
The overall aim <strong>of</strong> this programme is to enhance and<br />
improve your English language skills, knowledge<br />
and competency in reading, writing, understanding,<br />
listening, and speaking English. This one year<br />
programme is recognised by the Irish Dept. <strong>of</strong> Education<br />
and Skills, and therefore globally recognised. This<br />
course can be delivered between 1 – 3 years, depending<br />
on your need for English language learning, and can<br />
serve as the perfect foundation for further and higher<br />
education and training through the English Language.<br />

International ESOL qualifications are delivered over six<br />
levels mapped to the Common European Framework:<br />

• Access<br />
• Ach<strong>ie</strong>ver<br />
• Communicator<br />
• Expert<br />
• Mastery<br />
International ESOL Qualifications<br />
are intended for<br />
• Non-native speakers <strong>of</strong> English worldwide<br />
• Students learning English as part <strong>of</strong> their school or<br />
college curriculum<br />
• People needing English for their everyday or<br />
working life<br />
• Learners who require externally recognised<br />
certification <strong>of</strong> their levels in English<br />
• Learners attending short courses in English<br />
Assessment<br />
<strong>CCT</strong> will utilise a var<strong>ie</strong>ty <strong>of</strong> assessment methods to<br />
help ensure that the learning outcomes <strong>of</strong> each subject<br />
will be ach<strong>ie</strong>ved, for example: Written Examination<br />
compiled <strong>of</strong> long or short term essays, Objective Tests,<br />
Presentations, Group Projects, Practical Assignments,<br />
Oral Examinations and so on. Assessment will be<br />
continuous throughout each module .<br />
Mechanisms for giving and receiving<br />
feedback on learning progress<br />
<strong>CCT</strong> constantly encourages feedback from its learners in a<br />
formal and informal basis. Learners have an opportunity to<br />
give feedback on the college, programme, faculty, facilit<strong>ie</strong>s,<br />
administration, student services and admissions and course<br />
induction through the following verification surveys: 1)<br />
Learner Verification survey; 2) Student Services and Support<br />
survey; and 3) Admissions and Course Induction survey. <strong>CCT</strong><br />
constantly encourages feedback from its learners in a formal<br />
and informal basis. Learners also conduct an Ongoing<br />
Monitoring Rev<strong>ie</strong>w process with faculty and administration<br />
<strong>of</strong> the college once per semester.<br />
Accreditation<br />
This programme is awarded by City & Guilds. This<br />
programme is also included on the Irish Dept <strong>of</strong> Education &<br />
Sc<strong>ie</strong>nce, Internationalisation Register, <strong>of</strong> approved full-time<br />
programmes in Ireland.<br />
Academic Progression Opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s<br />
Successful graduates <strong>of</strong> this programme, will be eligible to<br />
progress directly onto the FETAC foundation and certificate<br />
programmes and HETAC Level 6 Higher Certificate in Sc<strong>ie</strong>nce<br />
in Computing in Information Technology at <strong>CCT</strong>, and will<br />
be considered for other Level 6 graduate progression<br />
opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s in Ireland.<br />
Duration / Commencement dates<br />
One – Three academic years, depending on the EL<br />
language improvement requirement <strong>of</strong> the student, with<br />
commencement dates constantly throughout the year on a<br />
rolling basis.<br />
Course Fees<br />
Please contact the college directly to ascertain the course<br />
fees. Medical insurance for Non-EU nationals is compulsory<br />
and as part <strong>of</strong> the Irish Student Visa requirements and can<br />
be arranged by <strong>CCT</strong> for an additional fee <strong>of</strong> EUR160 for 12<br />
months.
