The transit draft is 8 metresand the operating draft between 9 and11 metres. For the main propulsion, two 6.5 MW fixed-pitch variable speedazimuth thrusters have been installedbelow the aftership. The vessel is alsoequipped with a class 3 dp system, forwhich four 3.2 MW fixed pitch variablespeed retractable azimuth thrusters havebeen fitted, in addition to one 2.5 MWfixed pitch variable speed tunnel thrusterin the foreship, which can be used bothduring manoeuvring in port and for dpoperations offshore. The 125 metre-highrevolving mast crane built by Huisman, with a footprint of 16 by 16 metres, iscapable of lifting loads of up to 4,000 mTwith a radius of between 17 and 40 metres, and up to 1,500 mT with a radius of78 metres. The lifting height is 96 metresabove main deck. Using the mast crane, loads can be lowered under water to adepth of 260 metres. The crane blockcan be divided into two sections, whicheven makes it possible to stand jacketsupright. Another feature of the crane is asmart anti-heeling ballast system, whichensures that the vessel remains verticalduring crane operation. Following extensiveresearch and development, a smarttwin-winch system has been developedthat minimises the oscillation of heavyloads during lifting operations. If work has to be undertaken ateven greater depths than 260 metresreach of the mast crane, the combinedabandonment and recovery (A&R)and deepwater lowering system developedby Huisman can be put into action. This system is capable of delivering loadsto 3,500 metres water depth and isequipped with active and passive heavecompensation. An ROV hangar has beenlocated on both the port and starboardside of the vessel, each equipped with aworkclass ROV and a launch and recoverysystem suitable for water depths of upto 3,500 metres. The innovative pipelaytower, also from Huisman, is used forboth J-lay and Reel-lay operations. For J-lay work, pipes with a maximumouter diameter of 32 inches can be laid,at a top tension of 2,000 mT.The maximum capacity for the Reel-laymethod is 16 inches outer diameter and800 mT top tension. A skid system hasbeen mounted on the aftership, whichenables the exchangeable reels that includingline pipe can weigh of up to3,000 mT, to be transferred from starboardto port and accurately positionedbehind the pipelay tower. These reelshave a diameter of 24 metres. The fullreels are loaded at sea on the starboardside, and the empty reels unloaded onthe port side. The multi jointing pipehandlingplant is positioned just behindthe deckhouse. The plant is currentlyconfigured for processing so-called quadjoints. These quad joints are prefabricatedfrom four standard 12 metre-long pipejoints. The plant is equipped with workstationsfor bevelling, welding, weldseam controlling, grit blasting, painting6OFFSHORE VISIE 4 / 2013

The 48 MW power plant, dividedbetween two separate engine rooms, consists of six diesel generator sets eachrated at 8 MW. The transit speed is inexcess of 12 knots. The Aegir has twobridges. The front bridge is used for seatransport operations from a to b, whilethe survey, ROV, dp and pipelayingactivities are controlled from the rearbridge.
