May I say what a priveledge it isto be penning this report as it is 60 yearssince the club was founded in 1949. Long may itcontinue. By the time that this is publishedin the Village News, the fi rst games willhave been played, commencing on 8th ofAugust. Within hours of the Craven Heraldgoing on sale the “Meet me in Vegas” gigat the local Village Hall in Sutton was a sellout. The Three acts entertained ages from 8to 80, I kid you not! This was an event notto be missed. Although all the tickets weresold out there were still die-hard followerswaiting for no shows on the door. Theywere out of luck! Anne Drury, the first act,had an emotive and vibrant performance, and as a solo artist performing in only herthird live performance held the audience inthrall with her command of the keyboardand her range and cadence of vocals. It wasquite amazing to realise that all the lyricsand music without any enhancements wereher own and from such a new artist. Oneto follow for sure. “Operator 6” as alwaysbring their usual vibrancy and skills to anyperformance, a unique blend of talent whoalways have a large following which wasCross Hills Football Clubshown in the chanting throughout theirset. They have been likened to many bandsbut they have an individuality which willtake them far….. particularly of note wasthe drummer who we all must admit arenot generally noticed. However, althoughcredit has to be given to the support bands, the vast majority were here to see thelocal band, “Meet Me In Vegas” who stolethe show when playing their old and newself penned music. “I’m falling down” aparticular favourite which is always a hitwith the ladies was very popular! Newtracks from their EP which will be releasedlater this month were also played and verywell received. Meet Me In Vegas’ likeabilityand star quality was never in question andthey did not disappoint, although as onebass player will admit he missed a note ortwo, what a breath of fresh air to realisesomeone can admit they made a mistake. If you were unlucky enough to miss out ontickets to this gig you can hear a sample oftheir music on myspace Meet me in Vegas.Hopefully before any of the bands are toofamous a repeat performance may be heldearly next year. Watch this space!room staff an enjoyable and successfulseason. I was very encouraged last seasonby the way our younger players acquittedthemselves, against more mature teams anddefi nitely will be a force to be reckoned within the near future. Good luck lads. To ourloyal supporters, who fl ock to Sutton Fieldsin their thousands, I can inform you that ananonymous supporter has donated a newtea bag to the kitchen, so you can be assuredof a nice fl avoursome brew in the comingmonths. Whoever you are, our gratefulthanks, your generosity knows no bounds. All the best - Barrie PearceMother HubbardDecember 2nd - 5th at The Village HallPlease can all children & adults interested in being inthe chorus for this year’s pantomime come along tothe Hut for a 7.30pm start on Friday September 12thWebsite!!
