Data SheetASMi-52L2/4-wire SHDSL Modem• Dedicated managed SHDSL modem• 2-wire and 4-wire service over any copper infrastructureDedicated managedSHDSL modem for2-wire and 4-wireservice over anycopper infrastructure• TC-PAM line coding for extended operation range of up to 10 km (6.2 miles) on 24 AWG• Data rates between 64 kbps and 4608 kbps• Four levels of QoS based on four VLAN priority queues (Ethernet units only)ASMi-52L is an SHDSL modem thatoperates in full-duplex mode over 2-wireand 4-wire lines.Multiple data rates in the range of 64 to4608 kbps are supported. Data ratesdepend on the line interface, DTEinterface types, and operating clockmodes.ASMi-52L employs standard SHDSL TC-PAM technology to extend thetransmission range (see Table 1) andenable carriers to reach more customersat lower costs.User interfaces include X.21 and V.35DTEs, and E1 interface. For LAN-to-LANconnectivity using SHDSL technology, themodem features a built-in 10/100BaseTbridge with one Ethernet port and VLANsupport or a 10/100BaseT switch withfour Ethernet ports and VLAN IDtransparent and VLAN priority support.ASMi-52L is available as standalone plasticenclosure or metal rail-mount enclosurewith extended temperature support (4ETHservice only). The Access Company

ASMi-52L2/4-wire SHDSL ModemFull management and monitoring of theremote unit is achieved by using anEmbedded Operation Channel (EOC). Themanagement channel uses SHDSLoverhead bits in compliance with ITU-TG.991.2 requirements, operating withoutinterfering with the data transmission.Management of Ethernet units isperformed via the data port.ASMi-52L units can operate opposite acentrally located LRS-24 rack withASMi-52CQ cards installed (see Figure 1).VLAN priority enables up to four QoSpriority levels (for Ethernet units only).Up to eight SHDSL repeaters can beinstalled in line to increase the operationrange of the modem. ASMi-52L providesbasic management of the repeaters.Supervision and configuration activitiesare performed using an ASCII terminal, IPhosts using the Telnet protocol, orRADview-EMS (Java-based modularclient-server scalable elementmanagement system) providing secureconfiguration and fault managementcapabilities. The terminal port supports a dial-upmodem connection for remotemanagement of ASMi-52L over telephonelines.A modem with a 4-wire line interface canbe configured to operate over 2-wirelines.Comprehensive diagnostic capabilitiesinclude:• Real-time alarms to alert the user onfault conditions (reported by themanagement station)• V.54 local analog and remote digitalloopbacks• SHDSL statistics collection for15-minute and 24-hour intervals.Automatic configuration allows the currentconfiguration to be uploaded anddownloaded from a configuration file.Figure 1. ASMi-52L Modems Operating Opposite ASMi-52CQ Cards over 2-wire Lines
