MARK PRITCHARDASKS: WHAT HAS THEBUDGET DONE FORSHROPSHIRE?SUPPORTING PENSIONERS LIKE YOUMore freedom for pensioners over theirsavings■ The Conservatives will extend new pensionfreedoms to the 5 million pensionerswho already have an annuity – meaningpensioners will be able to sell their annuityincome in return for a lump sum.■ This follows on from the radical reforms topensions policy that was announced last year.By removing the obligation to buy an annuityin retirement, pensioners will now have theflexibility to manage and access their hardearned money in the way they see fit.■ Whether they choose to take it as a lumpsum or withdraw it over time, or still buyan annuity, pensioners will now have thefreedom to take the decision that is right forthem.■ No longer will pensioners be punishedby a tax rate of 55% for withdrawing theirpensions. If you’ve worked hard and savedfor your pension pot, you should be free todecide what to do with your money.HELP FOR SHROPSHIRE FIRST TIMEBUYERS?■ This new ISA will mean for every £200 a firsttime buyer saves, the government will give abonus of £50 – up to £3,000.■ If you save up to £12,000 for the depositon your first home, then you will get up to£3,000.■ For a basic rate taxpayer it’s the equivalentof not paying any income tax on £15,000savings towards a first home.A new Flexible ISA to encourage saving bytrusting people with their hard-earned money■ From the autumn, people will have completefreedom to take money out of an ISA and putit back in later in the year without losing theirtax-free entitlement.CUTTING TAXES FOR YOUConservatives are raising the personal taxfreeallowance to £10,800 next year and£11,000 the year after.■ This is a down payment on the Government’scommitment to raise the personal allowanceto £12,500. It means the typical workingtaxpayer will be over £900 a year better off,3.7 million of the lowest paid will be taken outof tax altogether and 27 million people willbenefit.■ The Conservatives will also raise the 40p taxrate to £43,300 in 2017/18.Freezing fuel duty to help Shropshire familiesand businesses with the cost of filling upcars and vans■ Conservatives have cancelled Labour’splanned September petrol increase –delivering the longest duty freeze in 20 years. It will save a typical family around £10 pluswhen filling up the car.■ The Conservatives have pledged to raisethe threshold on Inheritance Tax so that youcan pass on the assets of your home to yourchildren and grandchildren.Promoted by Robert Macey on behalf of Mark Pritchard, both of Wrekin Conservative Association, 8 Lytham Green, Muxton, Telford, TF2 8SQ.www.wrekinnews.co.uk / 7

GEORGEEVANSThe Wrekin’sfavouritecolumnist! My Market MatesWELLINGTONMARKET is agreat place, constantlychanging with the times andyet having some stallholderswho have been serving customersfor several generations.I first went there in apram, ninety years ago andmy early memories includePeacock’s Penny Bazaarwhich sold toys for a pennyand a character who soldchina after smashing a fewcrocks to get a crowd roundhim. Over the years manyof the traders have becomeold mates and this article isabout some of them. Unfortunatelythere’s not enoughroom for all the stallholderswho have become myfriends and I must apologiseto those who should be herebut are left out. Maybe I’llsqueeze them into anotherarticle some time.On the way in from WalkerStreet, just past Allan’s CameraShop, where he nowsells wonderful fireworks, isa new paint stall, Rainbow, where the young chap isbuilding a fascinating collectionof paints and thetools to go with them. Thenthere’s an Indian clothesshop that’s just ending fortyyears of trading; that’s a pity.Across Rowland Gate in theoutside market are a mostefficient watch and phone10 / www.wrekinnews.co.ukIN THIS ISSUE OF WREKINNEWS GEORGE EVANS WRITESABOUT HIS MARKET MATESstall, where I’ve often boughtthings and a lovely lady whosold me ribbons to tie on atree on The Wrekin.Graham sells repairedvacuum cleaners (goodones, I know) and is extremelyhelpful, with Raj,his Sikh neighbour, who’sa specialist in bespokekitchen furniture and also askilled musician. There aremany stalls here that wereoperated by the Baker familyfor three generations;their move to a shop in NewStreet has created a big holethat’s being gradually filled.I wish the new traders thebest of luck.Inside is an underwearand nighty stall; I’m wearingsome of her briefs. ‘Margaretthe Eggs’ is a regularcharacter and we often exchangechat and jokes aswell as eggs and cash. Onlyon Thursdays there’s whatwas the WI stall selling jam, marmalade and cakes. Thestall is taken on Saturdaysby the Clifton Cinema group, who have my best hopes ofsuccess. Then there’s ‘Up inSmoke’ where I get my regular‘fix’ of Pensioners’ Mixtobacco. Roger Maddox’sfamily greengrocery stallshave sold excellent food atlow prices for generations, some of it home grown. Atthe shoe repairs and keystall there is a genius whohas solved problems for me.The Army Surplus stall isfascinating and I’ve boughtclothing from here which issound and very wearable.Just outside is Aladdin’sCave, an amazing collectionof household tools andsuch, which Mark finds easily, often hanging from theceiling. Tell him what youwant the thing to do andhe’ll produce three differentversions. That includeskitchen or alarm clocks, whisky or wine glasses, saucepans, frying pans, clothes horses and anti-slipbath mats. Then there’sStuart whose stall is calledRosemary after his mother. He sells curtains and hadsome chair-arm protectorscustom-made for me. He’salso a skilled rescue workerat weekends.Near Stuart are severalstalls of books run by Rob,who has expanded from atiny stall to a great place forbrowsers. Unfortunately Robdoesn’t sell new books as hehas the only book shop inWellington. He is very goodat matching books to readersas I have found. When Istarted writing local history, needing to know more aboutthe general subject, I wentto him and the library. Robis highly recommended tobibliophiles.Over in what used to becalled the potato market (forthe obvious reasons) hasbeen for over forty years alarge clothing stall owned byMr Sodhi, who has now retired. It seems to have beentaken over and is the samesize. I hope it’ll survive. Thenearby rug stall is fascinating.Back inside, after the bigcake stall, is David, the relativelynew computer man.Lots of people nowadaysquickly change their computersand smartphones assoon as a newer versionarrives and David is veryskilled at rejuvenating theirold ones and making them> Some of George’s Market matesreusable. ‘Are they guaranteed?’you may ask. Well, like all our market traders,David lives on his reputationand that’s the guarantee; it’sbetter than a legal one. Inour market customers aremuch more important thanin multiple shops and tradingis all done on a personalbasis. Before buyinganything from David I askedaround and found he haddone a good job for a friend,so I went to him for helpand have been several timessince then. The shoe stall has expandeda lot over the yearsand now seems to takeup five or six units, sellingshoes, slippers and bootsfor almost everyone. I’vebeen known several times togo there and say, “A new pairlike these I’m wearing, size10 please.” They’re alwaysquick to serve, knowledgeableand friendly. No wonderthey have prospered. Oppositethem is the big sweetstall selling everything betweenliquorice boot laceslike I bought for a farthingbefore the war to the latestkids’ fads and includingsome extra strong mints I’mfond of.Lesley’s Larder annoysme; she sells the mostbeautiful cheeses and I lovethem, but they give me bellyache so I can’t eat them.Good luck to those who can,it’s a lovely stall. On the way to MarketSquare is a newish café,well run by Kuldip Sahota’sfamily, with odd shapedbut comfortable chairs andpleasant snacks. Please also rememberMay 8th - the 70th anniversaryof VE, which should be‘Peace in Europe Day’. Weshould celebrate it.

Theaircraft which was carryinga crew of five airmen was flyingabove Llansilin when oneof its engines caught fire. The valley it was flyingover is a very peaceful rurallocation with very little housing, mainly farmland. While this disaster wasunfolding in the night skiesMr Williams was returningto his farm in the valley afterdoing his evening’s duty inthe Home Guard. His housewas called Bwich-y-Rhiw,nestling right below theWellington Bomber’s fatefulflightpath.By the time the Wellingtonwas in difficulty, EdwinWilliams and his wife AnnieJane, had just retired to bedand their children Dan andhis sister together with aland girl Nancy were alsoasleep.Up in the sky one of theaircraft’s engines brokeaway from the wing and hurtledto earth landing directlyon the farm. The force ofthe blazing engine struck directlyon Edwin and Annie’sbedroom propelling themboth through the house intothe cellar. They both diedinstantly.Dan managed to rescuehis sister and the Land Armygirl. He sustained a deep cutto his arm but managed getboth girls to safety. He laterreceived a commendationfor his bravery. The stricken aircraft wenton to crash into a hill immediatelybehind the farmhouse. All five airmen werekilled but sadly only twobodies were found at thecrash site, so severe hadbeen the fire.A few miles away fromthe crash site, a soldier was18 / www.wrekinnews.co.ukLes Beamond from Wellingtonbrought in a very interesting storyabout World War II and a tragedythat happened not too far fromhere.Les relates to an incident thathappened in 1943 and he followedthe story through to its conclusionin 1993. Les takes up the story.> Sergeant Ottley’s name freshly etched in to the WarMemorialreturning home for a shortspell of leave. He had justgot off the train at Gobowenrailway station when he sawa huge flash of light from thedirection of Llansilin. The soldier’s name wasBill Wren and he was tolearn the next morning of thetragedy that unfolded on hisdoorstep.Fifty years on from thetragedy and Les Beamondand his wife were drivingnear the village of Llansilinwhen they saw a gatheringof people. Les stopped andwas told the people hadgathered to commemoratethe fateful night fifty yearsago when seven people died(five in the aircraft togetherwith Mr and Mrs Williams).Among the crowd ofmourners was the OswestryTown Mayor, a certain Bill> Councillor Bill Wren (left), Nancy Povey (the Land Girl survivor) and William Richards, allstand under the plaque at Bwich-y-Rhiw farm in Llansilin.Wren. He related the storyto Les of the night he sawan explosion on the hill nearLlansilin. The townspeople hadraised money to have aplaque put on the side ofthe now rebuilt farmhousewhere the tragedy had happened. The plaque had allseven names engraved onit. There was some surplusmoney which was donatedto the Royal Air Force BenevolentFund.Air Vice Marshall F C HurdleRAFBF, wrote back to Billthanking him for the donationand relating a final twistin the dramatic tale. Onlythat morning a man was inhis office asking for informationon an old school friendof his who was the pilot ofa Wellington Bomber whichcrashed near Oswestry killingall on board. The airministry had told him theycould only confirm that hispal was: ‘Missing, no knowngrave.’With the incident happeningover fifty years ago, thechances were very slim thatanything could be done toconfirm details of his death. The man was concernedthat his pal’s name was notentered on the war memorialin his home town of StAlbans in Hertfordshire. The Air Vice Marshall wasnot able to help the manwith enquiry but no soonerhad he left the office whenthe Air Vice Marshall pickedup Bill Wren’s letter from hisin-tray with the informationabout the 1943 crash andthe crew members names. It was an extraordinaryco-incidence and quicklythe Air Vice Marshall calledthe man back into his room. The man had been trying tolocate his friend SergeantG. G. Ottley and one of thenames on the plaque in Llansilinwas Sergeant G. G.Ottley!Sergeant Ottley’s friendhas duly had the dead airman’sname entered on theSt Albans War Memorial aftermore than fifty years of itbeing missing.Sergeant Ottley, his fourcrew members and Mr andMrs Williams are all nowrecognised after that fatefulnight in 1943. Bill Wren, the Oswestry Town Mayorhas since died but he wasgrateful for being able toplay a part in recognisingthe tragic incident and identifyingthe seven dead. Thisin some small way led toSergeant Ottley’s name findingits name on to the StAlbans War Memorial overfifty years after the rest!> Continued on page 20

Going back toTerry Heath’sFOLLOWING ONfrom my recent articlesabout the earlydays of soul music inTelford, a great many thingshave happened. SylviaDean, another original SundayHeath’s soulie, has starteda new facebook group,Shropshire soul friends60’s/70’s which already hasaround 200 members. It isa very live and active groupwhich puts old photographsof friends of the group, rangingfrom holidays, weddingsand pictures taken of localbands and dances. It alsohas enabled old friends fromaround the country to renewfriendships with people thatthey have not seen in somecases for over 30 years. The creation of this grouphas triggered an idea thathad been floating around for prevailinga year or so, that of a TerryHeath’s Reunion.22 / www.wrekinnews.co.ukRob Corbett writesWhen another old Heath’ssoul regular, Don Forbes, contacted me to ask if Iwould help set up a reunionI immediately agreed.Don then contactedthe current owner of theold Town House, Mr EricRagonesi, to establish if wecould use the venue. Havingagreed that we could,a meeting was arranged.Sadly in the intervening period,Eric’s brother, Sam,another original Heath’s soulmember, passed away. Thistragedy delayed things, forobvious reasons, but themeeting finally took placewith Eric and the currentoccupier Costas, Don andmyself. As a result of thecircumstancesDon and I decided that all ofthe proceeds from the eventSuit Hireshould be donated to theAir Ambulance, in memoryof Sam. He’s absolutely delighted forme.”The weight piled on after Angieretired at 58, when health problemsrestricted her activity; she just kepton getting bigger and bigger: “I’dalways been plumpish but so activethat it didn’t matter. Then suddenly Iwas immobile and bored – and whatdo you do? Sit around eating toastwith loads of butter.”She has macular degenerative disease, emphysema, sciatica and short-termmemory loss, following an accidentwhen she slipped and hit her headon concrete. It was when she wasdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes ontop of her other problems, that shedecided to try Miruji. She said: “My health problems can“Weight loss was my goal butI gained so much more!”Dear All,I would just like to re-cap on myyear at Miruji and give you a verybrief history about myself.Coming up to Shrewsbury fromLondon in 1999 I worked as amusical instrument repairer untilone fateful day in August 2001 Isuffered a nearly fatal stroke which,I am told, I made a remarkablerecovery from. Apart from all theissues in my head (which are healingslowly over time) I was issued withmedication which made me balloonin weight. During my early recoveryI was unable to walk much whichonly exacerbated the problem.I embarked on a period of overindulgence in food and drink. Ilived in a dark flat with little naturalsunlight in the winter months. I wasnot a happy man.I saw a sign outside your premiseslast August. Weight loss was myoriginal goal but I gained so muchmore! The light on the beach tookcare of my winter blue full stop. The Miruji Chair I found a totallyamazing and uplifting experiencephysically. I lost a stone. Graduallyas I listened to the Audio messagesI found a remarkable change comingover me. Around November I joineda gym. I’ve never been in a gym in mylife. I’d been fit up to my thirties doto physical work but not REALLYfit. The pounds kept coming offbut I still couldn’t give up my oldways. Gradually the programminghelped me to motivate myself bothphysically and mentally using myown resource. I suddenly began torealise what those resources were. Iam now two stone lighter and knowI am fitter than I was twenty yearsago. I’ve also got the same waist sizeI had in my twenties!Thank you all and particularly Alanfor having the foresight to initiatethis amazing project!Peter Sheehanbe very stressful; I’ve found listeningto the audios has made me so muchmore positive. I only went out ofcuriosity to begin with. I thought itwas absolutely fantastic.I’m more agile now because I’ve lostin total six and a half stone, althoughsome of that was before I came toMiruji. I’ve done so many diets, it’sunreal but I never stick to them. I goback to my old ways and put moreon.“I think what Sit and Slim does iswork on your subconscious so youare motivated to stick to it. It mademe realise nobody else was goingto do it for me. Only I can makethat decision to eat sensibly – to godown the right road, not eat loads ofsweets and all the naughty things. Inthe morning I just have porridge, asandwich at midday and a healthymeal and vegetables at night. Thequantity has gone down. Before, myHAVING undergone threesignificant operations within fourmonths, Brenda Ratcliffe, fromHodnet, was feeling worn out –Miruji has put a spring in her stepagain.“I haven’t had wonderfully goodhealth,” said the grandmother ofthree. “I’ve got osteoarthritis in bothhips and I suffer from asthma.”She had also had gall bladder, kneeand carpel tunnel surgery in a veryshort time. She was told she mighthave to have hip replacement surgerynext – but she now believes Mirujimight spare her from that, at leastfor the time being.“In five weeks my hip pain has justdisappeared,” she said. “I’ve beencoming three to four times a week. It’s got to be coming here that’s doneit. I can’t think of anything else.“I’m so much perkier now, especiallygoodness me, I’d have fry-ups andloads of cakes and biscuits all daylong. Now, I might still have a baconsandwich but I’ll grill it.”Angie did approach her GP to askabout weight-loss surgery but therewere concerns about her age – and alack of funding for the procedure inShropshire. She is so proud that she hasachieved such sustained weightlossfor herself and is determined tocontinue: “I love it. I can’t wait – Ilook forward to ‘my therapy’. It’s sorelaxing. I can’t describe to anyonehow much it’s made me feel inmyself, just wellbeing. I have sciaticaand - touch wood – that’s gone too, with the massage. I feel rejuvenated, more like 27 than 72. Now I have nonegativity whatsoever. People needto give it a chance.“In five weeks my hip painhas just disappeared”in the mornings. I get up at 6.30am,do the vaccuuming, get the veg done– whereas I used to be very tired andsluggish. I’d also get up three or fourtimes a night, whereas now it’s justonce.“I’m not stressed any more and Ihave so much more energy. I hope toget back to swimming and walkingagain soon. I’m enjoying coming, it’squite sociable.”FREE TRIAL01743 600 581www.miruji.com9 Roushill, Shrewsbury SY1 1PQ Relax + feel better

“The wholeworld cameback into focus”IT was chronic fatigue that keptBarbara Evans, 53, from Ellesmerefrom going back to work, until shediscovered the Miruji chairs. She now sleeps the whole nightthrough, wakes up feeling refreshedand has gone back to work as asupport worker for Age Concern. She has also lost 12lb and gonedown a dress size, to a size 14.A mum of four children, agedbetween 16 and 22, three of whomstill live at home, Barbara used to befull of energy, enjoying zumba classesand swimming in her free time. But in 2011 she was diagnosed withchronic fatigue syndrome.“I was so frustrated and angry, notbeing able to do what I’d always beenmind + body healing“I’ve ditched my sticks & got my sparkle back”Chronic, widespread pain andfatigue had ruined Julia Collett’s lifeand left her facing a bleak, joylessfuture.Fibromyalgia and flu-like symptomsof ME kept her from holding downa job, or enjoying her children fornearly 13 years.“I got to the stage where I reallycouldn’t do anything,” she said.“I thought, is this really it for therest of my life? The thought wasunbearable.”She discovered the Miruji chair inJanuary and she has been able toabandon her walking sticks and canclimb stairs again for the first timein years.Former ICT teacher Julia, 56, fromTelford, has lost almost a stone so farable to do,” she said.“I would lie on the settee all day.”She saw an advertisement for freeplaces on the Miruji trial and beganusing the chair in January this year.“I thought since there was no magicpill for what I had, I would give it ago. I had nothing to lose.“After about four weeks I noticed mysleep patterns were getting better,”she said.“With ME you are constantlyextremely tired and even when youdo go off to sleep it isn’t refreshing. You still wake up feeling washed out.“Now as soon as my head hits thepillow I’m gone. The first time Iwoke up after a good night’s sleepand her BMI has dropped from 48to 42.8.“I’m absolutely flabbergasted,” shesaid. “They would have to lock meup to stop me coming now.“I’m so upbeat. I’ve got my sparkleback. People ask me, how are youlike this now? I was like a little oldlady before. Now I can practicallyrun up and down the stairs. I haveso much more energy. I exercise withdumbbells at home and do Wii Fitstep aerobics.“I can do more now than I havebeen able to do for years. I’m sucha convert. The transformation in meis amazing. I was on anti-depressantsmorning and night, now I’ve cutright down to one in the morning.I was so shocked. I had slept for 12hours straight.“You get so used to waking in theearly hours and walking around likea zombie. Suddenly it was as thoughthe world had come back into focus.”Barbara continued using the chairstwice a week and has found thestrength to begin taking regularexercise.“I have built up to taking the dog outevery day for at least an hour alongthe canal in Ellesmere,” she said.“Walking is something I used toenjoy a lot. Miruji has given me anew lease of life. You can tell whenI’ve been here. I’m more chilled out.I have a much greater sense of selfworth.I feel I can tackle anything.“We’ve had some issues with ourhouse. If that had happened sixmonths ago I would have had anervous breakdown. Now I can takeit in my stride.”Barbara believes the Miruji chairshould be freely available to all, viathe NHS. “If I hadn’t been able to goon the trial I couldn’t have done it,”she said.“People are having surgery to stopobesity. They should be taking actionbefore it goes that far. It’s the samewith depression; don’t just givepeople pills and gloss over them.Look at the person as a whole anddeal with the problems that areactually there.“With the chairs, I think you willknow quite quickly if it is going towork for you but you should give itat least a month to give it a fair go.“There are trigger sentences for mein the audio which have changed theway I look at food, forever. I’m tellingeveryone I meet to give it a go.”“The massage is lovely but I thinkthe important thing is the way theaudio filters into your subconscious. The voice takes you deeper anddeeper; you are so relaxed it’s goingstraight in.”Now Julia is hoping to return to theGreek islands, where she enjoyed ahoneymoon with husband Clive, fora sailing holiday.“My outlook is so positive now,” shesaid. “My confidence has soared. Sixmonths ago I was just a shadow. Iwouldn’t say boo to a goose. Now Iwon’t be walked over. I answer back.“I’m so positive about this place, Ican’t tell you.”“My first Mirujiexperience”When a friend started talkingabout Miruji in Shrewsbury Iwas keen to give it a go.I was greeted by smiling, friendly staff when I arrived atthe Miruji reception which actuallylooks like much more likea tropical beach bar. I was usheredon to the beach where Isettled myself on a sun lounger. The light box gave off beautifulbeams of sunshine and relaxationas I settled back and shutmy eyes feeling the warmth ofthe ‘sun’ on my face. Heaven! No wonder sufferers with SAD(Seasonal Affected Disorder)benefit so much from sittingunder a light box for half anhour a week during the cold, dark winter. Before long I was taken to thewell-being massage chair whichuses a combination of relaxingmassage and NLP (Neuro-LinguisticProgramming) to promotea positive mindset. I wassettled into the large comfortablechair and plugged in to ageneral ‘sit and de-stress’ audio. After 40 minutes of pummellingand de-knotting, I simplycouldn’t get enough of it. Theaudio seemed to be playingdeep in my distant sub-consciousnessas I drifted along ona cloud of pure relaxation. The difference in how I feltwhen I left was amazing. I feltso much more relaxed, all mystress seemed to be lifted frommy shoulders and to say that Iwent home in a great mood wasan understatement. The Miruji experience has leftme completely reorganising mylife. I feel so much more positiveand now I make time for relaxationand de-stressing.FREE TRIAL01743 600 581www.miruji.com9 Roushill, Shrewsbury SY1 1PQ Relax + feel better

VET MATTERSKeyhole surgeryKEYHOLE, ORlaparoscopic, surgery hasbeen available inhuman medicine for someyears. Many human patientshave benefited fromthis minimally invasivetechnique. Laparoscopicsurgery is the practice ofusing very small incisionswith a camera and instrumentsto limit pain.Spaying is a very commonand somewhat painfulprocedure that oftenrequires a sizable incisionin the abdominal wall, socausing post-operativepain.By performing this procedurelaparoscopically,we can now offer our clientsthe option of keyholespays where the ovariesalone are removed. This offers the followingbenefi ts:It’s minimally invasive, the surgery is performedvia three very small holes, often only 1cm in size. It’s less painful and requiresless medication. The instruments usedare of a fi ne size and thesurgeon doesít directlyhandle the tissue. Somereports suggest that keyholesurgery can be upto 60% less painful thanregular spaying. It also means your petis subjected to shorter anaesthetictimes. There’s less surgicalrisk. The magnifi ed visualisationof the fi ne detailis exceptional, making theprocedure easier. Thereare far fewer complicationswith keyhole surgery.Recovery time is shorterand thereís a noticeablyquicker return to exercise. The aftercare that is requiredis reduced. Routinespay recommendation isthree days post-operativecare and gradual reintroductionto exercisearound seven to ten days. With keyhole this can beshortened to two to threedays post-operative careand fi ve days for regularexercise.Keyhole surgery can bebenefi cial in other areas, too. The magnifi cationand clarity the cameragives makes fi ne detailexamination of the organsvery simple. Inall honesty their fate wasprobably predictable fromthe first month or so of thecampaign. It took a dozenmountain to climb. As it was relegationwas confirmed withfour games to go and leftonly pride to play for.A draw at home to KidderminsterHarriers may haveconfirmed the Bucks’ relegationbut it was ironically tobe the precursor to a threematch winning run. FirstSouthport were swept aside3-0 at Haigh Avenue beforeTelford returned home totry and win their first leaguehome game since November.Lincoln City were the visitors.Things however werenot straightforward as theImps threatened on severaloccasions. James Montgomeryin the home goaladded to his burgeoningreputation by making a coupleof decent saves, first bygetting in the way of TomMiller’s header in the fourthminute. Jordan Burrow alsowent close for the visitors butshot wide. Telford hot shotTony Gray looked lively andhad a couple of opportunitiesto add to his impressivegoal tally but volleyed wideby the narrowest of margins.Lincoln looked the mostlikely team to break thedeadlock but were undone,to the great relief of most ofthe New Bucks Head crowdthanks to Neill Byrnes glancingheader following AdamFarrell’s peach of a free-kickseven minutes from the end.The goal was greeted aswarmly as if it were a titlewinner and the players celebratedas such, and whynot? After all this home victoryhad been a long timecoming.Telford were looking tomaintain their good form asthey visited Altrincham. Afteran even first half hour it wasGray who edged the Bucksahead. The former Chesterand Southport man reactingwell as the ball reboundedoff a defender to neatly tuckthe ball past Alty keeper DavidParton in the thirty-ninthminute. Gray’s strike wasenough to see the Bucksleading at the interval and insight of their sixth away winof the season, a remarkablehaul for a team languishingnear the foot of the table. That sixth win moved astep closer ten minutes intothe second half as Farrelldoubled the lead. Last season’stop scorer shootinghome from ten yards afterSam Smith’s wild effort fellnicely into the striker’s path. The home side pushed forwardto set up a nervy finish, first Jordan Sinnott hit thepost and then Nicky Cleepulled one back. However, despite late pressure Telfordheld on deservedly to climboff the foot of the table andabove both Nuneaton andDartford.Telford’s winning streakcame to an end in their finalgame, at home to Wrexham. But the Bucks did not godown tamely as they succumbedto a 2-1 defeat.Considering there was nothingbut pride on this game, both teams contributed to adecent and entertaining encounter. The home side werethe first to threaten as BradleyReid headed wide. Thedangerous Louis Moult wasto prove a danger throughoutthe game for Wrexhamand had chances to scorebut it was Buck’s substituteRod McDonald who wentclosest in the first period, his twenty yard free-kick justsqueezing past the post.Wrexham took the lead afterthe hour as Dean Keatesslotted home a penalty followinga Sean Clancy foulin the box. It was not longthough before the Buckswere level, Farrell’s superbfree-kick getting the slightesttouch off a defender to findthe corner of the net. Thegame then opened up asboth sides went for a winner, but it was the Welshmen whoedged ahead. Luke Waterfallwas the man on the spot withan excellently executed volleyfrom the edge of the boxthat gave Montgomery nochance. Telford were to getone more chance but Farrellscuffed his shot from twelveyards in the dying minutes. The Bucks must nowregroup and prepare for apush to return to the ConferencePremier. A quick returnmay not be a foregoneconclusion, but must be thetarget for a club of Telford’sstature. It will be a big challenge, but it is a challengethe club has faced beforeand is well equipped to faceagain.46 / www.wrekinnews.co.uk
