sub-BranchPensions Officers’ ReportOnce again your Pensions Officers Gerry Smith,and Tom Baena have been busy looking afterVeterans on behalf of the City of Blacktown RSLsub-Branch.The past year has been a little quiet but over 50inquiries were received with most actioned to asuccessful conclusion. These were for:• New Disabilities claims• Service Pension claims,• War widows claims,• Pension Increases and• Worsening Effects of Accepted Disabilities,Also we helped with additional local NGOassistance and ACAT Assessments for HomeCare and Safety in Home Assistance. A few SCRA(prior to 2004) and MCRA (after July 2004)compensation case enquires have come our wayand a number are in the preparation and claimstage. We also assisted in obtaining Medical andService records for further consideration ofpossible claims for some Veterans and FOIrequests for family members. These resulted insome being actioned with veterans receivingfinancial and life style improvements.Your Pensions Officers are continuing their trainingin Veteran and War Widows Pensions, the newMCRS system for Serving Personnel and Welfarematters. This will continue in 2011 as officers haveto requalify every 2 - 3 years to keep current withchanges to the VEA Act, DVA operations andGovernment policy etc.The Pensions Officers would like to thank TheSecretary, the Welfare Officers as well as all otherExecutive / Committee members for their helpthroughout the year.We would like to give our condolences to thosefamilies that have lost loved ones throughout theyear, and offer assistance to those that findthemselves in Nursing Homes and other types ofcare.OFFICE HOURSRemember the office is open on SaturdayMornings from 0900 to 1100 hours.But note not on meeting Saturdays.Tuesday morning from 0900 to1100 hours (byappointment only)You can arrange an Appointment through theweek at the office or even a home or nursinghome visit to assist you with DVA matters.Note. Again not on meeting Saturdays.Services that we can provide• Assistance in member’s disability claims old ornew.• The filling in of claim forms and DVA forms.• Interpreting DVA letters and requests forinformation.• Worsening Life style effects of veteransaccepted disabilities with claims for pensionimprovements.• Filling in SRS, MCRS and MCRA Forms of ADFServing Members; these are claims forconditions for in service injuries and disabilities.• Assistance for those service members ready toleave the service into civilian live and Making theTransition• Service pension claims for retired ADFmember’s Peacekeepers and Hazardousservice (eg. not having Warlike conditionsservice).• Help with War Widow Pension, WidowersPension and ADF Widows; providing assistancewith their claims.• Preparing Statements of Claim and EvidenceBriefs to accompany your DVA claims.• Preparing a history of service and incidence toassist with claims after obtaining your Serviceand Medical records.• Help to seek financial entitlements and adviceafter retirement, loss of partner or loved one.• Assistance with home care from theCommonwealth (DVA) or Local NGO communityprovider.• Seeking specified alterations for safety andcomfort to your accommodation after an ACATreview.• Obtaining home maintenance and repairs aswell as lawn mowing services if you are eligiblefor these services.There may be other things that we may be able tohelp you with. Come in and have a chat or ringthe sub-Branch office to talk to us.We are Justices of the Peace and ready to signmedal requests and other documents on behalf ofmembers of the sub-Branch and their families. AsJP’s we can sign, witness documents andstatements, affidavits of all types, verify copies,certify evidence materials and witness signaturesfor you. ANNUAL REPORT 2010sub-BranchWomen’s Auxiliary ReportLast year went by us too quickly. Office Bearerswere all returned to their same positions. Thereare nineteen (19) members consisting of five (5)life members and fourteen (14) ordinarymembers. Members attended Dawn Service andserved breakfast to all. Other events were ANZAC& Remembrance Services, State Congress,Children’s Christmas Party, Luncheons held by thesub-Branch and invitations from other auxiliaries.Money was raised for the Welfare & BenevolentInstitution by having street stalls, Easter andChristmas competitions, outings and selling ofANZAC badges and poppies.I would like to thank the Board of Directors,General Manager – Alan & staff, members of thesub-Branch & RSL club for their support duringthe year. Special thanks to Auxiliary members fortheir donations and support during the year.The Auxiliary meets 1st Tuesday of each month inthe sub-Branch room at 10.00am, new memberswelcomed.Good health and thanks to one & all.M. K. O’Connor JPHon. Secretary & Patronsub-BranchBungarribee Day ClubReportBungarribee Day Club recently celebrated their25th anniversary. We were joined byrepresentatives from State Branch of RSL andDepartment of Veterans Affairs alsorepresentatives from Blacktown sub-Branch,Deputy Board Chairman Mr Gary Ohlson and MrAlan Greenwood representing State Co-ordinatorof Day Clubs.During proceedings Ms Margaret Morganpresented a ten year volunteer badge to Mrs JuneRayner and to 5 of our original volunteers’certificates and badges for 25 year service. Thesewere Mrs B. Fayle, Mrs M. O’Connor, Mrs G.Morris, Mrs B. Lane and Mrs B. Barnes. RSL Clubstaff provided the usual delicious meal with thebirthday cake donated by Mrs Barnes.The club has had a couple of days out to LithgowWorkers Club and to Mittagong RSL for lunch aftera tour of the area. Hopefully when the weather iswarmer we will have more before year’s end.Thanks to Club management we are stilloccupying our usual area and new members arewelcome. We meet every Monday between10.00am and 2.00pm (except public holidays).Please phone Mrs B. Fayle on 9624 5196 or leavea message at the Club. Grateful thanks to Mr A.Middleton and his efficient staff and boardmembers for their support and co-operation.Thanks also to Mr W. Norris OAM, Mr K.
