RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATIONTECHNOLOGYEngineering Technology Department (810) 989-5754RFID 150 RFID Internship. This course consists of work experience in industryrelating to radio frequency identification (80 hours of work experience related tothe objectives equals 1 credit). This on-the-job experience will be developed by theemployer in conjunction with a coordinator designated by the college. There will be awritten training agreement developed which is agreed upon by the student, employerand the college. Special requirements may be necessary.Prerequisite: Permission of instructor and completion of first semester of RFIDcertificate program (GPA ≥ 2.5 in major area of study)2 credits (160 hours of work experience) = 2 creditsRFID 180 Radio Frequency ID Fundamentals. This course covers radio frequencyidentification (RFID) concepts and fundamentals, and how emerging electronicproduct code (EPCglobal) standards are influencing adoption. Content includes RFIDcapabilities, current applications of RFID in business and practical ways to articulate“use cases” for this new technology to potential employers and peers.Prerequisite: None3 credits, plus 1 contact hour = 2 lecture, 2 laboratoryRFID 181 TagNet Middleware. This course covers TagNet middleware, specificallyhow to install, configure and implement various use cases found in the supply chain.Topics include capabilities of TagNet and how various use case factors influence readrates and reliability.Co-requisite: RFID 1803 credits, plus 1 contact = 2 lecture, 2 laboratoryRFID 182 Technology Use in the Supply Chain. This course will use case studiesas a tool on how Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been used in the supplychain. Examples from the retail, pharmaceutical, defense, manufacturing & logisticsindustries will discuss how companies have gained competitive advantages byimplementing this technology. Topics emphasize impact upon business processes,securing of transmitted data and financial analyses.Prerequisite: RFID 1803 credits, plus 1 contact = 2 lecture, 2 laboratoryRFID 183 RFID <strong>St</strong>andards and Certification. <strong>St</strong>udents will identify, evaluate, andcategorize RFID system components with respect to industry standards. Additionallaboratory work with hands-on practical problems will be performed and rigorouslytested. Problem-solving, teamwork, communication and analytical thinking areintegrated into the course work.
